Re: Shutting this down

I will echo the sentiment that it stinks to have to move down this path, but it is likely the best way forward. Shutting down registrations is best but there are a few of us around that remember the old days!

Ohh crap. Got to add something else to the pack...

This will be a good incentive to try and fix some of the problems with the beta. Maybe I can get those few errors in QFEcheck to stop.

That's what the Microsoft KB article says. If Ryan agrees, I'll comment out the lines in his pack and remove the .cat files for those fixes. I'm just a helper; I really don't have the authorization to make big changes to the 1.3.0 pack.

I'm testing my update pack right now. If you guys remember the posts by Ryan that the update pack slows down with the more cat files you have to run... I'm experiencing it first hand right now. It's not short either, it is like 15 minutes of waiting at T-39. It did make it out of it a little while a...

Well it looks like Microsoft has pulled the download for KB896727. I have the one from the Windows update. It drops the files in c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. It is inside one of those folders inside. I pulled my copy that I installed for my PC out of there. You might check inside there....

I doubt this will have any problems. Effectively, for Ryan's pack to work, you would have to reinstall Windows each time a new version of the pack came out to run Windows Updates. Microsoft is going to continue to release security updates for pirated versions of Windows, but not the extras, like MDA...

It isn't supported yet. I am working with one of their Tech Support people. I received a beta of a fix they designed for me to test. I'm going to try and figure out if it works. There was some initial problem with it causing the machine not to shut down.

I say go for it... Why not?

If it causes any issues, like you said, it is part of a batch file and can be removed.

I know space isn't really an issue these days on computers, but what the hey?

If anyone has anything on why it shouldn't be done, please let me know.
