Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm still not sure which direction I'm going to go. I just recently found an "artist's conception" for Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex's new theme that gave me some inspiration. I may go with colors similar to that. I'm leaning more toward a "modern" look rather than a "fun"...
Kel, Thx for keeping up with this one. I still use it every time I update my XP disk! Could you update HashTab to 2.1? The new version has a handy little "drag-and-drop" function. It's the shiz-nit!! I thought of updating it myself, but I was afraid of possibly screwing up something in the "e...
Thanks for the responses, guys! @5eraph, Thanks for the poll. I didn't know it was that easy. (I know, I know... JFGI.) @roirraW "edor", MrNxDmx Although I agree that we all still use XP for performance, I still like to dress it up a "tiny" bit. I use VS themes because the performance hit - I believ...
I'd possibly like to turn this into a poll as well, if possible, but I don't know how. :( SP3... Good? Bad? Ugly? Seems that the reviews from end-users is mixed: Either they installed it without it hitch, or it gave them BSOD's and multiple errors. I'm thinking that most of the negative reviews are ...
Been away for awhile. Sorry to hear about your cousin. My father just passed away last November. All I can say is this: No one knows the future. Even the most faithful fear death, because none of us know with absolute certainty whether or not there is an afterlife. There is no proof. We DO know none...
I think RogueSpear pretty much explained my feelings on Vista back in post#4. (Very well-written, btw.) But, to sum it all up: No, it's not ME . But it's obviously not as good as people were expecting from a development cycle of 6 yrs . It's a "dressed-up" XP with less compatibility that hogs up mor...
Glad to see you keeping up with this one. I know your "HUMONGOUS" packs are more popular (and therefore, get more attention), but it's nice to see you still updating for those of us who like it "lite".
Not that I don't like Windows. I just know it could be better (which is what we do here at RyanVM) And Vista is definitely a big step in the WRONG direction.
I voted "WHO CARES", although I agree with Ryan. As much as I like his and Xable's packs (and all the other ones here), it just doesn't compare to a Service Pack. It would be better. An Update Rollup isn't really any different than what we already have here. But, I'm not holding my breath.
Xable just split up his "High Priority Light Update Pack". I always just integrated his pack (as it was), and also added your BareWGA Addon. Now, his WGA Addons are separated.
He's got 2 different addons, as you can see here: LINK
So, should I use yours, his, or both of them together?
Hey, ton80, looks like you've taken this thing over... so, why don't you post a new thread? I mean, it's yours now. Aserone hasn't posted here in over a year.
I have experienced on multiple occasions on 2 different computers, Windows File Protection boxes appearing randomly, when the install has been slipstreamed with the alternative IE addon. I think this just confirms why those of us who disable SFC with nlite have no problems. And it WOULD make sense ...
@DmX Glad I could help. First post looks MUCH better! Easier to read!! Just one thing to note. The following line should prolly be BOLD or something: If you're adventurous, go with the Alternative Addon. Otherwise, play it safe and go with the normal Addon. Since this really kinda 'sums it all up' ...
Point taken, Mitsuko. However, for most of us (I think ) the Alternative addon better represents what we are trying to achieve. Overwriting all of the files completely with Integrator most likely should be cleaner. The most popular addons here at RyanVM (for example, boooggy's WMP11 , Ryan's Update ...
No issues for me whatsoever. ;) I used Xable's Light Update Pack, disabled SFC with nlite, live install (not VMware.) I'm not sure where to look for that error log, but I don't really care. :P As far as I'm concerned, it's a 'non-issue'. How's this for a description: IE7 Regular Addon Totally safe. ...
@DmX
I hate to quote McDonald's but... "I'm lovin' it!"
Is it just me, or are the BlackSpin cursors MUCH improved this time around? Looks like they have better alpha-blending, more vibrant colors... and the transparent ones make my XP look better than Vista!!
@ccl0 No, not default. It just means that you'll be able to switch the cursors by going to the Control Panel, selecting 'Mouse', then the 'Pointers' tab. Otherwise, you'd have to add the cursors manually. If you want them as default, check this thread . @DmX Thx, dood!! (Help clear your head a littl...
Geez, I've noticed some downtime here and there, but not a whole lot really. But what I can say is that the bandwidth sure seems to have dropped lately. Sometimes, the page hangs for several seconds trying to post a reply. (I got 2Mbps.) They got you on some sort of a "bandwidth-share" thingy where ...
Hehehe, um, err, thx benners ... But that's sounds like a nutty little ordeal for me to have to go through, especially since I don't know AutoIt, nor installing reg entries thru XP install. I mean, it looks like some fun stuff to play with when I get bored, but I really got too much goin' on right n...
I agree with you in this case, yet I do use boooggy's tweaked WMP11 addon. It guess it really depends on personal taste. How important are these little errors, really? I honestly don't know. But I think I've used boooggy's WMP addons in EVERY xp cd I've ever nlite'd. Are we just talking about cosme...
@DmX I hadn't checked this post in a few months, mainly because it's still listed as v1.7 However, I checked the MD5, and you did something to it 'cause they don't match. (Plus, I noticed that the first post was last edited Apr 08.) So, what did you change? [EDIT] Looks like the one I just downloade...
Alt addon replaces all files at same time of integration. Normal addon replaces all files except 7files (that i listed above) at same time of integration. Replaces remaining 7 at OOBE. So, basically, the 'Alt' addon is what you're shooting for, but w/o the errors, correct? I rip out OOBE with nlite...
I did this myself (combining LE5.1 with shellstyles on Deviantart), but didn't make it an addon. I thought about it, but now I don't have to!! I have NO idea why that butthead tornado can't finish his damn theme!!
Sorry for this post. I'm sure it's just to give Ryan/DmX a light headache, but... Some of this stuff is just WAY over my head, although I think I get the gist of it. The "normal" addon adds files to the XP disk, and the "alternate" overwrites them... (kinda like your Update Pack, right Ryan?) So wou...
I personally have only used VMware, but I like it so much, I wouldn't even THINK of using VPC. Plus, it's Microsoft, LOL. When I was having problems with nlite, VMware gave me the SAME EXACT ERRORS as I got when I installed it for real, so that won me over (and it saved me a SHITLOAD of 'silver beer...
Me likes!! Me likes!! And still ain't had a single problem, personally. I haven't tried any 'tweaks' yet, but I just might this month if I get bored enough. :P @MrNxDmX, I just wanted to express my thanks for all of your hard work on this addon. Like Ryan's Update Pack and Booogy's WMP11 Addon, this...
You're always the first of the 3 to post for the month!!
To be honest, I was expecting it Tuesday or Wednesday. From what I read on a coupla security forums, I can only imagine the headaches that the new updates posed for everyone.
Actually, it's re-touched... but not much!! :D Everything in the pic is the same as the actual screen, save for the shark sign and red letters. Unfortunately, I've had 2 customers so far who insisted on installing Vista. First thing I learned to do was turn off UAC. I think you might also be ...
Wow!! I can't believe these AV/AS threads are still alive! @Fragbert, I was not aware that Symantec had a separate SAVCE app until reading here. I thought you were talking about Norton in the other thread. Good info. Nice to know! I still stand by NOD32, though. The mem footprint is just too much. C...
You're the second person to mention that one, Fragbert. And while I don't deny that Symantec IS a solid antivirus solution, it's a HUGE resource hogger. If you have a new pc, and don't run videogames, then I guess that's fine. I'd rather not deal with it, though, especially when you're at a customer...
