Micro$oft Update problem

Post by ITinerant » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:31 pm

I've been in the hospital for the past 3 months so I've been out of touch.
I'm having a problem with MS Update. All of the updates fail to install.
I'm not having any problem accessing MS Update or downloading the updates, just installing the critical updates. Am I the only one?

Just make a new ISO and install it? This can be like 1001 things.

the problem he is reffering to is common when using an older version of ryans update pack i believe 1.3.1 or something, its caused by the cat files reaching there limit. a fix was posted by buletov. for how to get around this, but i mean it would be best if he recreated his install using the newest version of ryans update pack.

Yes, so like I said, make a new ISO. I was kinda surprised when, I thought, you seemed to make the impression that Ryan's pack could be installed without reinstalling Windows.

1. Stop the crypto service and rename the “CatRoot2” folder inside C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.
2. Rename “CatRoot2” folder to “CatRoot2.bak”
3. Reboot (or use Unlocker to unlock the files inside this folder by killing the svchost.exe process from inside Unlocker)
4. Delete “CatRoot2.bak” folder
5. Deleted everything inside “CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}” except timestamp and SP2.CAT (if you don’t leave SP2.CAT updates won’t even download)
6. Deleted everything inside “CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE}” except timestamp
7. Start the Cryptography service (or do a “net start cryptsvc”)
8. Updates should work fine now.
that will fix all problems regarding your updates failing to install, it will also fix the problem with office updates failing to install that is if you have office installed
