files
the only hacked files I use is the uxtheme.dll and thats it. I have added files into the setup and done some other work. not to mention added like 500 drivers at once with nlite.
If you have msn or yahoo or something I would be glad to share the cd for testing purposes.
Its up to you.
I have tried doing the pack in every way you have said but with a different kind of trouble with each. So since I scanned the forum first before I said anything I seen that I am the only one. So it MUST be something that is different with my cd.
my msn is webmaster@croftssoftware.com
my yahoo is shane_croft.
Hope to talk to you.
Thanks again.

My suggestion is to start on a fresh CD with nothing extra added and work your way up bit by bit.

to much work
This is what I said the first time is I have put a LOT of extra work into it, it isnt a standard unattended setup cd.My suggestion is to start on a fresh CD with nothing extra added and work your way up bit by bit.
So to redo so much work just to add some windows updates cant be justified.
Not a big deal really. Adding updates will be a never ending job and I knew sooner or later I was going to hit a snag, lol.
Oh well thanks anyways and take care.
Shane
Re: to much work
Well, I thought about that myself, but I decided it was a perfect excuse to reorganize my XPCD. Now I have put all my modifications (besides the 2-3 mods to the i386 folder) ALL into my $OEM$ folder, and documented all changes in a changelog.txt file. I can start a new, fresh CD anytime I want by simply copying the $OEM$ folder to a new fresh start.smc1979 wrote: This is what I said the first time is I have put a LOT of extra work into it, it isnt a standard unattended setup cd.

The Update pack works perfect, as do all of my changes...
I think its worth it, but it's your choice.
I agree
I agree it may be worth it, but I made many changes to the text setup of xp so I can use the F6 option.
With an unattended xp cd you cant use the F6 option. Well my cd doesnt use the unattened switch but it is totaly unattened thus allowing me to use F6
Now I have done more than that but all my changes or at least 75% have to do with the txtsetup.sif and the i386 dir. and with 5 - 7 thousand files its easy to get lost
I may still think about it.

What I'm doing still shouldn't be interfering with other txtsetup.sif modifications

From what I under stand your update pack should work just fine, it always has.
Thats what is so strange about it now, something is not right and I cant seem to find out what it is.

For the record, smc1979's situation turned out to be nLite-related and we fixed it over IM. When I say
on my site, I mean it, guys. Even if what you did was minor and didn't involve component removal, it will STILL cause problems.Do not do a manual integration over a previously-nLited installation source!

Yeah same here Windows Messenger 4.7 has always been offered. Not sure why seeing as 5.0 is out and you would think it would be offered instead. And yeah I agree should would be nice to hide it completely from the start.
Well anyways. I did a nLite install again because a friend said qfecheck reports something werid. Well anyways I decided I would check and see. Forgot to last time since I was just trying to get WMP10 to work.
Well anyways he was right. QFECHECK report is very strange. Guess it's an nLite issue with 1.20. Seeing as all I did was intergrate 1.20 using nlite. Nothing else at all. Retail copy of Windows XP Pro. SP2 from microsoft.
Anyways here is the report:
Figured I would not post it here since its 49 lines long.
And I have done it twice on two different computers and same results.
And yes only WMP 10, Windows Messeger 4.7, Windows Journal Viewer, and Windows Media Connect are on windows update. As it should be.
http://www.willsdownloads.com/Report.txt
Again this only happens when using nLite. No such problem when doing it manually.

Like this?

EDIT: Oh, and it can be worked around by disabling SFC, though that's more of a cheap hack than anything else.
http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/faq.html
QFECheck says that most of the hotfixes must be reinstalled after integrating with nLite.
This is a known bug on nLite's end, not my pack. There's nothing I can do to fix it.

EDIT: Oh, and it can be worked around by disabling SFC, though that's more of a cheap hack than anything else.
The problem first showed up in nLite 0.99.7. However it works when you don't remove any services with nLite:
I removed manual install and upgrade,
printer drivers, modem drivers, display drivers
iis, all languages except dutch, valueadd and docs folders and problem did not show up. I need to use some nLite feautures to have my unattended cd kept under the 700 MB limit

Nobody's calling you a punk kid, but you did have two people telling you that it wasn't an issue. This isn't the first time that MS has released "updated" hotfix installers. I've seen some that get up to v4. The files inside don't change, all that changes is something in the installer itself. I don't know what exactly, you'd have to ask MS.
Also, if you open RVMUpPck.inf in a text editor, you'll see that I included the version info for EVERY file in the pack. Using that, you can easily cross-reference with Microsoft's version info that they put in every KB article. Or you could just decompress the file in question (again, using the MS KB article as your guide for what file(s) it is) and check that way.

Hi Ryan,
Earlier in this thread mention is made of KB 867282 and the need for additional registry entries for this hotfix:
Were these additional registry settings get included in the 1.2 Release Pack? (assuming they actually were needed of course).
Do you know if any of the other hotfixes in the pack than may need additional registry settings applied in this way?
Kind Regards
Simon

They'll be in 1.2.1. I'm not aware of any others at the moment, but I intend to investigate that more prior to 1.2.1's release.

I know it's "designed for English installations only" but I wonder if there are any problems using it under other windows versions? I was installing it on many XP's and even new 1.20 works fine now. But usually nothing is perfectly fine with my comp so it's really hard to determine the source of the problems.
My question is... are there any KNOWN issues that can/will occur after using pack with non-English installation?

Well, besides a bunch of English dialogs and such instead of whatever language they should be...

the strangest of things - I'm almost embarased to say, but I can't seem to be able to download any of the update pack files (any of the packages), recieving the following message:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /msfn/files/RVMUpdatePack1.2Full.cab on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is the access restricted? I've tried right clicking and saving the link target but the result was identical (I'm not using a download manager, tried with both firefox and explorer, am using zonealarm...) otherwise all other downloads from various site work well, ofcourse.
can anyone please help me?
