RyanVM Update Pack 1.2.1 - Released April 12, 2005

I want to know what hot fix has been added since 1.2 that is leaving garbage on my %systemdrive%
it is creating a folder of a different number each time i install so i can't just delete it with batch.
my install would be perfect if it was not for this file that i have to change permissions on and delete everytime.
Sir, you are correct it is my err. This is what i get for being lazy.
I have no idea, but I don't know why it wouldn't. Just make sure you're copying it in after everything else is done just before you create the ISO.

Ryan, why was KB890261
included in v1.2.1??
I use Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer V1.2.1 to check if updates are installed
----------Edit----------
Well actualy I should be asking why is it still showing it (KB890261 AKA KB887472 & KB885492)
KB885492 isnt installed on my system as I don't use WMP9 and I have WMP10 intergrated

Perhaps, HFNetChk is looking for the refrence to KB890261 instead of KB885492 & KB887472. probly doesnt check to see if you have more upto date wmp.dll IE 10.0...

I know what you're referring to with MBSA. Read what it's saying more closely. It says (at least on my system) that it can't verify that it's up to date. That's because in my case at least, Windows Messenger isn't installed so the file it's looking for isn't there. You'll also notice that if that's your only issue that MBSA still says the computer has passed inspection. It's nothing to be concerned about.

Also, I'm thinking that with a few runonce programs and the updates and the drivers...that this xp installation _should_ take quite a bit longer to install...am I right or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, if you're doing more during your install, it'll take longer. That being said, my update pack will add very little overall time to the Windows install (especially in comparison to if you used the /integrate switch for the hotfix EXEs and each had to run during setup)orcoxp wrote:Also, I'm thinking that with a few runonce programs and the updates and the drivers...that this xp installation _should_ take quite a bit longer to install...am I right or am I doing something wrong?
Windows Messenger is not supported by the Microsoft BaseLine Security Application. See KB306460 for a list of supported programs.codejunkie wrote:I asume thats why, Windows Messanger is still on the WU site too as I dnt install it, just woundered if there is a wey to stop it 'complaining'

First of the packs are great...totally easy and the forums are awesome...
but I wanted to mention a couple of things I found...
It appears that the no-WMP 1.2.1 medium removes a couple of hotfixes applicable to WMP10
KB885353 updates wmnetmgr.dll to v10.0.0.3904
KB892313 updates wmp.dll to v10.0.0.3901
Also, I don't know where I found it but your pack doesn't seem to have this hotfix:
KB891220 updates Quartz.dll v6.5.2600.2578

Technically not since the versions included with my pack are for WMP9. If you're using them with WMP10, you should add the WMP10-specific entries.orcoxp wrote:First of the packs are great...totally easy and the forums are awesome...

Re: Weird Problem
Just thought I'd update in case anyone else had this problem:RyanVM wrote:No idea. I tested integration over every previous version I could get ahold of and had no issues with them (ended up with byte for byte identical CDs to an integration over a clean CD). My guess is you had some other "junk" on there which is getting in the way. Short of knowing what it is, there's not much I can do to point you in the direction. Try a clean CD and see what happens.a06 wrote:so I downloaded and manually integrated 1.2.1 as per your instructions.
I then overwrote "sysoc" with my version (same one i used for 1.2.0 - it's your version, plus it just comments out messenger line), and replaced the "tcpip" with your hacked version.
these are the only changes i made to the core.
for some reason, when windows setup gets to the "which partition do you want to install on" (and i normally select one to delete, then format), the ocmputer freezes.
i dont know if this matters, but i overwrote all files from 1.2.0 (not a clean disc).
what's wrong?
I re-downloaded the files, re-ran through the instructions, reburned the DVD, and eveything was fine.
guess something was faulty along the way there somewhere...

Yeah, that's sorta what I meant...RyanVM wrote:Technically not since the versions included with my pack are for WMP9. If you're using them with WMP10, you should add the WMP10-specific entries.orcoxp wrote:First of the packs are great...totally easy and the forums are awesome...

I copied over the file manually and tried to put the *.CAT file in so it would register but it's not showing in QFECHECK...Is there a way to do this manually?

...where to begin?
First, QFECheck looks at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP for the list of installed hotfixes. If you don't write the proper entries, QFECheck won't look for them.
[I'm writing this from work, so I may not have the specifics of this paragraph correct. I'll check when I get home and edit this post accordingly]
Second, WMP10 updates aren't written to that location. They are written to Windows Media Player 10 instead of Windows XP, meaning they won't show up with QFECheck even if the registry entries are added properly.
The best way to verify that all is well is to look in system32\dllcache and check to see if the updated files are in there (assuming you have WFP enabled of course). Of course, if you didn't add the necessary entries to svcpack.inf for those CAT files, Windows setup won't know to install their information and the files won't be protected.

So if WFP is not enabled then dllcache would be non-existant?
I did add the CAT files to the svcpack.inf...but I still have to add them to
the registry, right?

No, adding them to svcpack.inf is all you have to do.I did add the CAT files to the svcpack.inf...but I still have to add them to

Nope.orcoxp wrote:Also I found a small bug...but I'm not sure what caused it...
Does your update pack do anything with the FontSubstitutes registry key?
