My hunch is that the INF isn't being executed. Do you have a big list of KB #s if you navigate to "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP3" in the registry?

I normally have to edit sysoc.inf to add the entries. I just checked in the pro/ folder, where it should be copying from, and checked the other files. They aren't getting copied over either. Maybe there is a problem with __integrate.exe.

For all interested, this is the line in sysoc.inf that should copy the files, and execute the registry values.

Code: Select all

HotfixUpdates=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,RVMUpPck.inf,HIDE,7
If you are having problems. See if that entry is in there. If not, I believe we have a bug.

I strongly doubt it. Think about it, there's no way an error that big would go unnoticed by myself or others when using it. The number of people experiencing the problem is very low, so I'm more inclined to think there's something wrong with what they're doing or their setup.

I don't heve this registry key or any entries under it and the branch of windows xp doesnt exist at all! QFECHECK reports none installed and yet windows update requires none.

WTF please help me figure this out.

sysoc.inf has the "required" entry also

I just ran qfecheck.exe and it reports that KB888603 should be reinstalled. I see that KB888603 was replaced with KB895536, but qfecheck.exe dose not find KB895536.
qfecheck.exe did not find KB895181 also, would this be because I installed Windows Media player 10 after installing the OS?

I'm still new to this, let me know if this is something I did wrong.

Thankyou.
@RyanVM
I am gettin kb319740, kb884723, kb885353, kb886610, kb887078, kb892313, kb892559, to be reinstalled on the system.After intgratin your pack and later slipstremin wmp 10 by using Genome's
Slipstreamer V3 {http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=45917}.Is this due to slipstremin wmp 10 ?

I have just created a disc with your update, and it is just marvellous! It took only 1 hour to get a new, clean opering system, no oobe...
I have one question left: I have used svcpack.inf to install your switchless .NET and Java pack. I deleted svcpack.in_ (or so), and used my svcpack.inf. Did I made a mistake? Should I decompress and edit your svcpack.in_, or my way is ok?

thanks

sorry for my bad English

Yes, you need to use my svcpack.inf. I wouldn't have included it if it wasn't important.

Just did a fresh install and ran qfecheck befor installing WMP 10, KB895181 is still missing.
As a temporary fix can I just apply the missing hot fixes manually?

@itsme_4ucz - you've got a PM
@Forver - you can, and I'm assuming WMP-related issues will be gone with the next release once 10 (with its hotfixes) is included from the start

I just added KB895181 manually and qfecheck still dose not find it. I'm thinking that it was there all the time and qfecheck did not see it.
The OS seems to be working so far, so I will just use what I have and hope for the best.

Oh, I understand what you're saying. QFECheck won't show that one because it's a WMP10 fix (even with WMP9, it installs the WMP10 file) and goes into a different subkey in the registry than other SP2 fixes. There are actually 4 such hotfixes included in the pack which won't show up under QFECheck. There's nothing to worry about in that regard.

OK, but how to modify your svcpack.inf, to run switchless .NET and Java pack?

Just a quick update from personal experiences, re: recent teething probs with RyanPack1.2.2.
1]XP Pro SP0 base
2]Manual integrate SP2
3]Manual integrate RyanVM FullPack 1.2.2
4]Extract 122to122a-full.rar to I386 overwriting all.
5]Extract 122to122a-full-nowmp.rar to I386 overwriting all.
6]Run Bashrats WMP10 installer.
7]Manual del usual folders. (Lang, Docs etc)
8]Add my own $OEM$ folders, burn boot cd - Nero66013.

Just visited http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com to see what it said and I get:
High Priority updates avail = 0
Optional Software updates avail= 2
1]Windows Media Connect update (6.5mb)
2]Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer (7mb)
Optional Hardware updates avail = 0

So obviously no criticisms Ryan and thanks for all the extra effort in releasing the "patches". Looks like I'm sorted again. Hope this info helps someone.

You guys really don't need to extract both full and fullnowmp RAR files. They're the same things, just with different INFs.

1.2.2 lite pack brakes windows corporate

Post by nimd4 » Tue May 24, 2005 7:59 am

sorry guys, but the new 1.2.2 lite pack brakes a windows xp pro corporate edition.

the behavior cannot be replicated, except what happened in my case, and i have reinstalled a couple of times is -

(nlite) integrated the update pack into sp2.. without any extra nlite options, so nothing broken from there and then some and only some files and programs take a very long time to respond during installation or execution, for example the two i noticed are the grypen proxo filter sets and mcafee antivirus center, version 9, the new one.

take it as you want it, but these are facts, from a fresh system i have been using for years now. i guess this means on to autopatcher. thank you very much ryan, but i doubt this is ever getting fixed ;) take care, good luck. :)

Ryan, I have just realised, that this files (so svcpack.in_) are cabinet files. I have to rename to .cab, decompress, edit, compress and rename.
Thank you for your great work!

I'm using the 1.2.2 lite pack on the same OS with no problems. Did you use the patch for 1.2.2? I'm thinking that it may be nlite that is the problem, the new version seems buggy and I did not use it.

hi, i tried integrating the 1.2.2 pack via nlite as well as manually integrating the post 1.2.2 patch. i would like to know, is it normal that when i run qfecheck, it mostly says that the hotfix needed to be reinstalled?

also, i still can't run installations on svcpack folder of my xpcd. :(

i would like to know, is the svcpack folder case sensitive when being defined from the svcpack.inf?

thanks/

No, that's not normal. It's a sign that svcpack.inf isn't executing properly. I have no idea if it's case sensitive, but my gut instinct is that it isn't.

aside from the qfecheck problem, windowsupdate page doesn't run well, it goes at an error page that windowsupdate files to run or something to that effect.

also, i noticed that with my 2 compilations, the timing that svcpack execution works is when the svcpack folder is lowercased.

anyhow, i tested it with changing the case of SVCPACK folder but it didn't make any difference with the result. however, since i did the integration via nlite, i tried checking on the configuration files (dosnet.inf, txtsetup.oem), and upon closer look on them... compared with the manaul integration, i noticed that dosnet.inf doesn't contain the code that's discussed on manual integration:

Code: Select all

[OptionalSrcDirs]
svcpack
however, the rest of the required changes to dosnet.inf and txtsetup.oem were intact.
i will test it again.

i agree . i will investigate what could've caused this problem. thanks again...
anyways, i tested it with the following code on dosnet.inf:

Code: Select all

[OptionalSrcDirs]
svcpack
unfortunately, i didn't changed the way it supposed to run installations from svcpack.inf... hmm....

When i run qfecheck on my XP installation (SP2 + 122Lite + patch + Gnome's WMP10) i also get some hotfix needs to be reinstalled messages. As far as i can see from the KBxxxxxx descriptions, these hotfixes are related to some services which i have disabled after installation...for example XP's firewall or Windows Messenger. I am not sure if these hotfixes are crucial if you don't use the service.

By the way...is there also a post-SP4 pack for Windows 2000 somewhere? Thanks for any suggestions :D

I wanted to ask do I need to extract 122to122a-full to i386 before executing __integrate.exe or after that or it doesn't matter?

Thanks

If you don't install the CAT files, none of the updated files will be protected by Windows File Protection.

Ryan,
If this was posted, and I missed it, I'm sorry.

I JUST got around to doing a full install, and it randomly told me that my files needed to be verified, and I need to re-insert my original XP PRO CD....

I will try to replicate it tonight, but is this something that I did wrong?

I only used your regular pack, I didn't do A or all the stuff after. (I've been away for a while)

I will be checking again today with a new run in case of a fluke. I'll also add in all the updates you made. And then I'll see
