Introducing...the RyanVM Bittorrent Tracker!

Post by RyanVM » Thu Sep 28, 2006 8:24 am

That's right, it's finally live! From now on, never worry about download issues again! If you have a BT client, you can get the files from my site :)

To begin, get a BitTorrent client - I recommend µTorrent.
Next, go to http://tracker.ryanvm.net/
Select the file you want and click the download icon for it and away you go!

And as a special bonus to kick things off, I've made available on the tracker a full 2.1.2a release for those of you who want it!

And for those of you who may already have some of the files being tracked there, if you could lend a hand in seeding them, that would be great.

Enjoy!

Congratulations Ryan ! This should make things a lot easier.

Is this a full PHP tracker ? I like its output very much, it's very clean.

It's a stripped down T-Xore frontend with a modified open tracker backend (to add authentication and such). And yes, it's fully PHP/MySQL based. aniperleo is a star :)

very nice job, excellent idea.

Any chance that you'll extend this to addon makers in the future?

- possibly giving each creator thier own page such as your work is currently on a single page.
- Maybe even ftp access to each creator to modify thier own pages and files.

The way the tracker is currently written, it only allows for one person to upload to it. I have been toying with the idea of allowing for others to make use of it as well. However, I want to make sure it can stand up to a good load before doing that. When and if I decide to extend it to addon makers, I'll make a thread in the addons forum for it.

I also like this because it means people can stop whining about the referrer checking on my site :P

I like this so I can download without disabling my firewall due to the referrer on your site ;)

Be careful, Ryan. Dreamhost has been known for cutting off people that are a drain on CPU usage. Bittorrent trackers aren't really CPU-friendly ... just letting you know. :)

Not sure if you care, but...

It's w3c, not wc3 (world wide web consortium ... www consortium ... w3c) ;)

htmlentities should be used on torrent titles so that "&" will be used in lieu of "&"

w3c validation cannot be done on pages with server variables ("GET" commands). You can use the "referer" URLs to fix that.

And then I adjust my w3c links accordingly.

Holy crap, I just started downloading the update pack and it's done in like 30 seconds. 1.1 MB/s...

That's odd the 2.1.2a is the same size as 2.1.2, but that could happen, but also the hashes don't match.

The tracker website has this hash listed for 2.1.2a:
46a5d12a279a851520b39b71aeced2191a9d0de3

And I get this hash from the file:
DA75AE5B6BADED4B0C8B723C65538B0B

Why, the only difference is one updated file which was already in the pack before.

Read up on BitTorrent. BT hashes aren't MD5 (your first clue should have been the fact that the hash isn't even the same length as an MD5 hash...)

The Torrent Tracker is a great idea. My firewall didn't squeal at me for trying to download the new Update Pack. Thanks! :)

Love the tracker, wish I could get the modified script, lite version as it's called.

Does aniperleo share it? Thanks!
