Re: RyanVM Update Pack 2.1.5 - Released December 16, 2006
I just looked at the versioning on the files replaced by these 2 updates. I think KB924692 actually replaces 918005, as 918005 is dated in april of 06, and 924692 is dated in september.... Also, the version on 918005 is 5.1.2600.2891 while the version on 924692 is 5.1.2600.2993. Also the last reviewed dates for the articles show that 924692 is more recently updated....RyanVM wrote:[*]Added KB918005 Hotfix. Replaces KB924692 Hotfix.

Look here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securi ... 5-007.mspx and then check the [+] Security Update Information. (This is the security bulletin for KB888302.)johndoe74 wrote:hi, Ryan, the MS page says 926646 doesn't replace any other hotfixesRyanVM wrote:What's New
Version 2.1.5
- Added KB926646 Hotfix. Replaces KB888302 Hotfix.
You will see that KB888302 contains Srvsvc.dll 5.1.2600.2577 and if you look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926646 you will see that fix contains Srvsvc.dll 5.1.2600.3019, hence it replaces KB888302. (So, no matter what MS says.

Stimpy, I dont think Ryan is planning to make an IE7 addon yet. There isnt really any need, as nlite already supports _direct_ integration into the CD (read: replacing IE6, not upgrading during setup). To do this, all you do is download the ie7 installer from M$, and put it in the hotfixes part of nlite. That will do it. The only reason one might need an addon is for when they start releasing concurrent IE6 updates and IE7 updates. Then IE6 updates would go here, and IE7 updates would go with the IE7 addon..Stimpy wrote:I was really hoping for the IE7 addon. It's all I need to make my XP CD perfect! oh well! lol
Thanks to Ryan, and Merry Christmas to everyone.
Re: RyanVM Update Pack 2.1.5 - Released December 16, 2006
KB918005 has been updated to v4. If you download the hotfix, extract it, and check the version numbers then you'll see that the files are now actually newer than those in KB924692.Speeddymon wrote:I think KB924692 actually replaces 918005, as 918005 is dated in april of 06, and 924692 is dated in september.... Microsoft doesn't always update the version numbers in their articles.

If you check Ryan's Changelog then you'll see that these two hotfixes have replaced each other before.

It's not that I dont think he will create one, I just dont think he will yet. There isnt any need since there haven't been any updates released for it yet (that we know of)ViVa wrote:Do you really think Ryan won't create an IE7 addon, just because nLite supports direct integration of IE7? not as far as i'm aware...i do integration of update pack, wmp10, dx9, rvmaddon (the extras), and wga, then remove components with nlite...i dont overwrite files in i386 afterward...maybe my comp has a voodoo hex on itglent wrote:Not seeing this problem, Are you modify files after intergration?joll69 wrote:not a problem, just an annoyance, but KB920342 still shows up on MU.
i've seen it there when i integrate it with nlite, or the /integrate method, as well...anyone else notice this?

There IS an update for IE7, so there is no way to integrate it along with the update. That is why we need an IE7 addon right now, I don't see why somebody can't do it. Is it really that difficult? And don't ask me to do it myself that is not possible.Speeddymon wrote:It's not that I dont think he will create one, I just dont think he will yet. According to nuhi, directly integrating IE7 requires hacking syssetup.dll. That's a big complication. I'm still planning on doing it this year, so quit the off-topic whining.

I think 918005 USB update is missing a catalog which is why it is saying the files aren't signed. svcpack.inf has a line for 918005's catalog file but I looked in the svcpack folder and there was no KB918005.cat/KB918005.ca_.
I integrated 2.1.5 into two different XP sources and neither have that file. I manually added the catalog but have yet to test it.
By the way, i'm not a big fan of using nLite. You add or delete something and you get more than you bargained for: like it applying hacks to SFC and whatnot when you haven't told it to do so (I want SFC and don't want it altered by nLite). This is my first time using RyanVM and it seems pretty solid.

Odd because it's in the 7zip archive. But if the CAT is somehow not getting on the CD, that would definitely cause problems.
EDIT: Ah shit, I know the problem. KB918005 wasn't removed from the [obsolete] section at the bottom so it's being deleted during integration.
EDIT2: This should fix it. Integrate it AFTER the Update Pack (NOT AT THE SAME TIME).
http://www.ryanvm.net/files/RVMAddons_215fix.7z
EDIT3: Anybody want to confirm that KB918005.cat is in the svcpack directory after integrating this addon?
EDIT4: OK, I've posted version 2.1.5a which should resolve this for good. For those who've already got 2.1.5 integrated, the addon should resolve it for you.

Sorry about that one. Not sure how I didn't see that during testing

Ryan, I have a question. Does the integrator process obsolete files first, or last?RyanVM wrote:Sorry about that one. Not sure how I didn't see that during testing
I would think that it should process all of the obsolete files first. That way you could make the update packs obsolete all patches, and then go back and add in only the current ones, effectively making the patches happen on a "clean" source. If it doesn't, could you look into adding that into a future version?

I just got around to trying.. Yuck. Nlite asked if I wanted to keep the newer files, which I said yes to. Everything in install, GUI setup and First boot went ok, but IE7 can't do tabs now.. That's just doing 2.1.5 over 2.1.4 and IE7. I am getting ready to test IE7 over 2.1.5 over 2.1.4 and IE7... Hopefully this will fix it again, but I'm not holding my breath.Siginet wrote:You are welcome to try... but it is allways best to start fresh. Let us know if you are successful or not.Speeddymon wrote:Just checking to make sure..
I integrated 2.1.4 a few days ago, followed by IE7 (using nlite)..
Is it safe to go ahead and do over the top of 2.1.4, and IE7, and then re-do IE7?
I'm asking because I dont want to have to redownload all of my addons because I have to make a clean CD, but if that is the only way, then I will.

Ryan, as always, thanks for the latest release.
On the 'a' release, I'm getting a critical error with FGCBA 0897 as follows.
Time for one of my patented ignorant questions ... what is best/fastest way to check the hash?

FCGBA is wrong (about the critical errors anyway). And HashTab works for checking hashes easily.Master Wolfe wrote:Ryan, as always, thanks for the latest release.

FGCBA can't find respndr.inf because it is placed in the "pro" subfolder (which is used to distinguish files that go to xp pro from those that go to xp home). Checking for this has not been implemented yet, hence the error (and it wasn't implemented because addons usually don't need xp home/pro specific files)
This will be supported in the next version.

BTW, Dreamhost sorted out the server issues. Turns out one IP was hammering the living hell out of the server (and unfortunately, they only update their stats once a day, so I didn't have a chance to block it yet). Anyway, all should be well now.

My girlfriend's computer is blue-screening, she's running a version of my Unattended Installation with Ryan's Update Pack v2.1.5.
Her computer has been Prime95 (13 hours, no errors) and Memtest86 (100 passes, no errors) tested.
Do you have any proof that v2.1.5 could be causing blue-screens? And if so, does v2.1.5a offer the solution?
Thank you.
laze.
