nope, nothing but a new MRT for me...plus an update to VS2005 if you have that installed.

Same here for XP x86. XP x64 has nothing at all.

yeah but if anything, this gives a lot of addon makers a full month to improve their current addons...instead of adding new files, testing, re-testing, releasing, getting bug reports, etc etc etc

...did anyone else feel "empty" going to MS update and only seeing one update (for MRT!!!)?

Maybe they've just been releasing hotfixes to give ryan a lot of work to do...
They found out he's on vacation... so they decided not to release any hotfixes this week. ;) :D

Or maybe they've patched it all up? No more needed.

=D

I have to echo RogueSpear's comments about being thankful. I now have about three weeks or so to finalise and test the UACD I'm currently building before I have to worry about updating. :)

Maybe they're working on the next SP3 beta :).

There are a small handful of non-critical fixes for XP, one critical for win2k, and one critical for office 2007. Should be available on MU an hour or two after this post if they are not already up.

I don't know how newsposter knows, but I found the information in the following article:Additionally, you can always find the latest security-related patch information from the Microsoft Security Response Center.

I know from keeping up with the industry press and (simply) by reading MSFTs security bulletins.

No need to speculate, MSFT is pretty open about what they're releaseing 7-10 days in advance.

They're unrelated, cyberloner. BTW, the SPs won't be final until 2008. We should see refreshed betas within two weeks, however.

After a while, you begin to pick up the patterns...

The week before PT, Microsoft posts its advanced notification. If you look at the details page, you will see a table that shows you which products each of the security patches apply to, so you would know in advance whether or not there are XP patches.

Also, Microsoft tends to alternate the impact of the PTs. Usually (though this varies, of course), they tend to have lighter PTs every other month. September, like July, was a light month.

Finally, Microsoft tends to release non-critical patches to the download center (and sometimes to MU) on the Tuesday two weeks before PT.

And then there are the times when Microsoft seems to break all of their conventions. Like Office 2003 SP3, which was pushed out yesterday.

does that mean they have abandoned Xp already (microsoft) its strange becasue ppl are revolting against vista, and dell ect have put XP as an option again for their packages. its also been hinted that the SP1 for vista will return the feel back to xp and dump all the bullshit that vista has, like uac act

I would hardly say that Microsoft has abandoned XP at this point, seinfeld. As long as OEMs keep pushing for it as an option on new machines it will remain on store shelves. With the pending release of XP SP3 right around the corner, I'd say that XP will be around for at least another year.

This was a pretty quiet patch Tuesday across the board.

I'd like to see some links to this supposed return to XP look in vista SP1. The only UI revisions i've seen in the beta are minor at most.
