Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about here (so don't shoot, Mr.), but if you can't get VMWare to work, there is always MS Virtual PC 2007.

Is it really necessary that Windows has to re-figure out just what's installed anytime you open Add/Remove programs? Is it really that difficult for it to know what's installed?

No, a minute's not long but taken into perspective it is a lot longer than it should be.

Of course, I don't consider this to be a SP3-specific annoyance.

ARP just enumerates a section of the registry. Among other things, it finds registry entries to tell it where to find the icon for each entry and the directory location for each entry (which accounts for why a 1MB program will read 1GB or so if it's located in \system32).

Yes, but you can also use redxii's XP SP3 Update Pack 062008-r03 in the meantime, also.

I know one always gets attacked here when you ask this question but I'm going to anyway. Has anybody heard whats happening with Ryans post SP3 pack. I have not seen him around here since before this months patch Tuesday

All I can tell you , masterm, is that Ryan is working on it with a release date of "soon." I can't provide any more detail than that because I don't know more than anybody else here at the moment.

I'm guessing that I've probably missed a post or two...

I know Ryan said that he'd occasionally update the SP2 pack, but it doesn't appear that's been done recently. I didn't see anything in the other update packs forums. Is anyone keeping up with SP2?

I read the post for Ver. 2.2.3. Could u give us a rough estimate on when its expected.

Had already started preparing for a new build when i saw ur post. Now it wud be prudent to wait for ur Update.

I've got both the Post-SP2 and Post-SP3 packs in sync right now. I've been very aggressive this week in getting both almost ready for release so that as soon as soon as I get home from work on Tuesday, I can add the new security updates and get the packs released.

In other words, I'm expecting to release both updated packs on Tuesday.
