"Fatal error" involving NT5Inf.cat

Post by rvm999 » Wed Jul 02, 2008 5:35 pm

I found no mention of this problem when using Google to search the site for the file referenced above, so I am opening a new thread.

I used the latest integrator to integrate the RyanVM Post-SP2 Update Pack 2.2.2 - Released April 27, 2008 into an XP SP2 source. The build and burning went smoothly, but when I attempted to perform a repair installation from the DVD, I received a message at the start of the "installing Windows" phase that I needed to provide the file NT5Inf.cat. When I could not, the error message indicated that "this is a fatal error--Code 1."

I tried restarting the installation, and it produced the same message, and same result, at the same place. The message provided this further information about the error: "an error has been encountered which prevents Setup from continuing. Setup failed to install the product catalogs."

The SetupErr.log provided the following additional information: "The signature for WinXP Professional Upgrade is invalid. The error code is 1. Incorrect function."

Although NT5Inf.cat does not appear in the integrated source, it is present in the original XP source in the i386 folder. My system installation, built and updated from the same source, includes the file in the
System32\CatRoot and System32\DllCache folders.

Please advise if this problem has a known workaround, or whether it results from a bug which will require a revised build of the update pack to remedy

Do you have the NT5INF.CA_ in your source and slipstreamed disks. It's the compressed NT5INF.CAT file. It should appear in the i386 folder of both source and RVM slipstreamed disks. Using the latest 1.5.3 integrator? Any addons or packs you're also slipstreaming?

The integration was done with the 1.5.3 integrator. No addons or other packs were involved in the integration.

The NT5Inf.cat appears in the source i386 folder in expanded form. It does not appear anywhere in the integrated resultant set in either compressed or expanded form.

The burn wasn't at fault because the file was not in the integrated source from which the burn was made.
