RyanVM Post-SP3 Update Pack 1.0.0a - Released August 27, 200

Post by RyanVM » Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:37 pm

It's out!

What's New
Version 1.0.0a
  • Fixed the Windows Installer 4.5 issues and a few other minor nits.
For the love of God, read the nLite or Integrator directions for how to properly integrate this pack.

Notes
  • nLite 1.4.9 or RyanVM Integrator 1.5.3 is required to properly integrate this release.
  • If you used nLite to integrate the pack and are having problems, PLEASE read this thread before reporting problems.
Download Here
Or From My Website

Known Issues
  • Version 1.0.0 incorrectly copied an MUI file used by Windows Installer 4.5, causing dialogs to be blank. This post contains a simple fix for existing installs. This problem is fixed in version 1.0.0a.
If you do run into anything you think is an error, be sure to consult with the FAQ on my site before asking about it here.

I feel the same way. Excited about RyanVM's releases, that is, not that it's pathetic what gets you excited. ;)

Sweeeet! I am going to try it out now. Although I have nothing against redxii's pack, I do like a bit less conservativeness without completely going overboard (like on OnePiece's pack).

Thanks Ryan.

Is there any easy way to remove Other Updates (Adobe Flash Player etc.) and Miscellaneous Tweaks from this update pack?

@RyanVM : How do u get your DataStor.edb ? Mine is 3MB whereas yours is only 1MB. I do a first Windows Update check (with my UpdatePack already integrated), then I copy it to my Update Pack and it takes 3MB :(

When you visit Windows Update, kal, do nothing except choose Microsoft Update. Then run services.msc, stop the Automatic Updates service and copy DataStore.edb immediately.

At least that's how I did it and mine is only 1 MB.

If you know how to create addons then removing those things shouldn't be hard. This is hardly the thread to explain such things, however.

If you feel up to it, laddanator, open txtsetup.sif and search for 729. If you can't find the following line, add it under [WinntDirectories] and see if it solves your problem. It is not currently in the Update Pack and may be necessary for XP Home. Unfortunately, I no longer have an XP Home source to check for myself.

Code: Select all

729 = system32\mui\0425

In my slimdown home source there is no line 729 but in my untouched source I have this line

Code: Select all

729 = "system32\drivers\UMDF"
would slimming down with nlite remove this line and if so should I put this line in instead of

Removing components with nLite may remove the line in question. But I cannot be sure.

I'm guessing it would not be wise to replace the existing line, so I'd recommend adding the following line instead since I believe 800 is undefined for x86 OSes.

Code: Select all

800 = system32\mui\0425
To go with this new line you'll need to edit the following line:

Code: Select all

msim0425.mui = 100,,,,,,,[color=yellow]729[/color],0,0,msimsg.dll.mui,1,2
Change the 729 to 800.

Keep in mind that there is more than one [WinntDirectories] section. ;)

Thank you, laddanator, for your patience and your time testing.

Please PM me if you're willing to send an unaltered txtsetup.sif from XP Home (pre-nLite, pre-Integrator). It would be very useful to prevent problems like this in the future. :)

Yeah i ran into a similar problem, during beta testing : see here. Is it unsafe to redefine dirid already present in txtstup.sif? Because if it's not, maybe RyanVM should integrate this dirids to avoid any trouble ;)

Cheers.

Could be. I heard about a few other now-obsolete files right before I intended to release it that I decided to push off for the next release.

It's not a problem as long as they're the same (in fact, the Integrator I'm pretty sure consolidates them anyway). I had to do it the way I did in order to support both Home and Pro.

My home source is now working

Pro already has this line in txtsetup but it does not hurt to intergrate update pack with changed entries.ini since that line is there it skips it(Just tested this)

Thanks Ryan for the udatepack,and 5eraph for the help with the fix

Man, I could have sworn I'd checked all of those. Oh well, I've added that line locally, so it'll be fixed in the next release. Sorry for the confusion.

Sometime after next month's patch Tuesday. None of the nits people have brought up warrant a re-release.

HosseinMoradi: no, RyanVM simply use a tweak so Windows Update thinks it's installed.
Miscellaneous Tweaks
KB873374 - Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool Registry Entry
KB890830 - Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool 2.1

Correct. Originally, the registry tweak was all I did. However, MU decided after awhile that mrt.exe also needed to be present on the system in order to be satisfied, which forced me to start including it. MU no longer requires it, so out it goes.

Unfortunately, I think I may have found something that does warrant a re-spin...

You should explicitly define a directory for the 0409 language location as you did in 0.9.2. %MUI_PRIMARY_LANG_ID_DIR% maps to 0009 (English, sublang=undef), not 0409 (English, sublang=US), and the MSI MUI must be installed in 0409, not 0009 in order for it to work--if you run "msiexec /?", you will see a blank dialog.

This may explain why a good deal of the .msi dialog boxes for my installers contain no text.

Yea, that's how I first noticed the problem. Fixed ini+infs(changes) for anyone who's interested. (edit: no longer needed now that 1.0.0a has been released)

probably
[txtsetup_dirs]
xxx = system32\drivers\UMDF
is a variable winntdirectory added by boooggy's wmp11 slipstreamer.

Probably it was compressed in a 64 bit environment with 7-Zip for x64 which support
7z->Ultra->LZMA->128MB->273 settings.
