WinXP migrating to Win7
i'm asking this in the XP forum because that is where my knowledge base resides
i'm sitting on six computers here at the house, five on WinXP, one on Win7
i update/reinstall one of the WinXP's every month, couple of the others only quarterly, couple of the others only once a year
point is, the WinXP boxes are *EXTREMELY* **EASY** to update
download the latest update pack, swap out a few items such as IE8 and .NET, and nLite already knows what to do
i pop in the newly nLited DVD, tell it to boot from disk, i return two hours later and everything is installed, and i mean *EVERYTHING*, no software needs anything from me, i'm up and running with *ALL* settings applied
so which brings me to my question - can't this be done with Win7?
i'm new to Win7 and don't follow the Win7 forums, needle in a haystack for those of us that are on this forum for one thing and one thing only, updating our WinXP
installing Win7 is a *nightmare* as far as updates go
am i missing something?
can't the updates be "slipstreamed in" the same way we do them with WinXP?

@long-lurker:
Have you seen my post ?
This was only some hints, all you have asked can be done in Win 7, see wincert, msfn and other sites/forums.

yep, downloaded the X17-58997 iso and trying out RT 7 Lite
RT 7 Lite seems old but so what, so is nLite
i haven't checked wincert yet
i avoid msfn because they deactivate my account if i don't log in often enough, you can't download without an account, and i get fed up with them deactivating so i'll find my legal content elsewhere instead of constantly battling their deactivation CRAP

You should avoid RT7Lite too, the app is very outdated, use NTLite or WinToolkit instead.

@ long-lurker
with win 7 , 8.1 & 10 i use capture image in virtualbox..
set image up in virualbox.. install upto where have to put language and name etc.. but dont put nothing..
go into audit mode.. ctrl and shift and press f3 once...
setup how you want the windows
install programs , drivers , updates ( but not antivirus - might have to make that silent install)
use the sysprep (put winpe iso in vm drive)
then click ok on the sysprep window (tick reboot)
capture wim
copy captured wim to unpacked iso and make a new iso updated
ill send a pm with my capture package with capture scripting etc..
