Post by GH0st » Sat Jan 31, 2015 8:27 pm

I wanted to call your attention to this latest [WAREZ LINKS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS FORUM] read the description. Seems to be alot of components that have been ported back to XP. But I can't find any forum posts on such things. Wondering if any of you all have heard of these yet.
Ported Windows Hotfixes and RTM files:
* Compatible Windows 2000 Hotfixes: KB291343.
* Compatible Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 RTM files (v6.0.2900.5669): explorer.exe, logon.scr, msgina.dll, sysdm.cpl, user32.dll, winbrand.dll, xpsp3res.dll.
* Compatible Windows Vista Hotfixes: KB973473-v2 | KB977585-v2 | KB2028505.
* Compatible Windows Vista RTM files: makecab.exe (SP1), mimefilt.dll (SP2), mimefilt.dll.mui (SP2), msdelta.dll (SP2), nlhtml.dll (SP2), nlhtml.dll.mui (SP2), offfilt.dll (SP2), offfilt.dll.mui (SP2), PhotoMetadataHandler.dll (SP2), windowscodecsext.dll (SP2), WMPhoto.dll (SP2), WMPhoto.dll.mui (SP0), WUDFUsbccidDriver.dll (SP2).

* Updates the Windows XP Components: Browser Choice, Remote Desktop, Windows Imaging Component, Windows Driver Frameworks, WinUSB, XPS Printer and Common Printer Drivers.
Side note: I have installed this OS version and its very tight! Feels good, dont think its as secure as SP4, but good as a typical install with all updates slipstreamed.

These patches do not know. where can I find more information?

SndRec32 Patch v1.0: Increases the recording time limit of the Sound Recorder from 60 seconds to 999 seconds.

* dotNET 4 NGEN Patch v3.1: Fixes a Microsoft .NET Framework 4 bug that causes a slow Windows XP boot up.

* NTDETECT Patch v1.1: Resolves problems with some buggy BIOS'es, when installing Windows XP with an USB Flash Drive.

* SERVICES Patch v1.0: Includes more assigned port numbers for well-known services defined by IANA.

I guess a question is whether SP4 could be applied to the referenced OS release, either online or offline? Would you get the best of both? Would it only update older files or what? It might add back some of the things that were removed in this release, but would that be a problem? Just wondering.

Another question, probably more appropriate for discussion here, is whether any of those ported components, if they are not already in SP4, could be added to an SP4 OS with an addon pack?

Cheers and Regards

Obviously I don't condone any pirated versions of Windows, but I think that all changes are available as addon here on the forum. In particular, the files taken from Vista and 7 are indicated in the last line of the components:
Updates the Windows XP Components: Browser Choice, Remote Desktop, Windows Imaging Component, Windows Driver Frameworks, WinUSB, XPS Printer and Common Printer Drivers
And some of the addon that include these things are available to these link:
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8473
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7787
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9543

About the "SndRec32 Patch", is indicated on wikipedia how it works (and also on a page of Microsoft KB).
Versions of Sound Recorder before Windows Vista audio recorded to memory, rather than to the hard drive, and the length of recording was limited to 60 seconds by default. Microsoft recommends recording 60 seconds and pressing the Record button again to record another minute. [7] It is easy to Achieve longer recording times by using "File | Save" with "Edit | Insert File ..." to increase to it. For example, saving an initial 1 minute recording as "1min.wav" and then inserting the "1min.wav" file 9 times will create a 10 minute long recording Which can then be saved as "10min.wav". This "10min.wav" file can then be inserted blackberries 5 times (or as many times as there is room in primary memory) to create a "1hour.wav" file. By recording over any of These longer sound files, Sound Recorder can have an arbitrary uninterrupted recording time (limited only by primary memory).
I believe that a recording time of 16 minutes creates problems in computers with little amount of RAM, but with so many similar free utilities without these limits I never really used the one included in Windows.

Yeah, I guess "FrankenBuild" is the correct way to look at it, but it caught my eye, so made me wonder is all. I am testing it, runs nice ... I have not had an incident with the Frankenstuff

harkaz is best qualified to help with new CAT files, and has shown interest in helping you.

I took some time to scour this forum for his posts on this subject and others relevant to creating new service packs. I'm somewhat reticent about posting the links to everything I found--it's not meant to be particularly easy to find. He has expressed fears that the information could be used for malicious purposes, and suggested that the posts be removed in the near future.

But I'm comfortable quoting him in the following instance. If you're patient, you should find everything you need.
harkaz wrote:I don't plan to write a step-by-step tutorial for XP SP4: the information required to sign the updated files are already available somewhere in this thread. ( http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.p ... 372#136372 and later posts)
