It was an issue with the .NET 4.0 addon.

This pack is still looking good.

i find .Net4 will slow an XP system for the first couple of reboots, after that it should stabilize.

I remember that virtualization might give the impression of a sluggish first boot, right before opening the first session... which does not occur with a physical CD... at least Virtualbox leaves to me that impression , it fights obviously through that virtual lan protocols serving that virtual machine to forcibly establish connection, it does not know to give up, too much virtual crap

seem that not WindowsXP-KB2286198-x86-ENU itself is the culprit.
i have installed it at svcpack using previous build made using qfe 1.34 and all things works just fine.
some other modifications made to qfe 1.36 increase cpu and memory usage.
something modified process priority for wuauclt.exe and one the svchost.exe
processes, even if it shows as normal.

I think the updated shdocvw.dll has something to do with that...Try going back to the original shdocvw.dll v6.00.2900.5512 and try with/without the reg entries see what happens

i notice that sometimes NOT always first run of WU does take a while, but only when running IE6. i can not comment on IE7 but integrating IE8 on the source speeds up WU times.
i wonder if this is an MS thing to
slow IE6 to force update to IE8, then one would say wow IE8 is soooo much faster?

1.34 added the new web control but that pack is working.
1.35 added KB2289168 which has shown to be ok
1.36 had just some edits to some ini and inf files which are insignificant to any change to how the pack would react.
so really there has been minimal changes to the pack from 1.34 -> 1.36

I am getting a quirk with qfecheck for build 1.3.5 (I haven't dl'ed 1.3.6 yet.)

I have checked my nlite ini and I don't believe it is the cause, (I used the same ini for the 1.3.3 builds.)
The moviemk.exe file appears identical in 1.3.3 and 1.3.5 based builds (md5's are the same)

Or do the edits for 1.3.6 resolve this?
I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.
How should I look for more clues? (about moviemk.exe)

Otherwise, I will just ignore it for now because I never use moviemaker anyway.

No worries,
I don't use that addon or any addon that changes the moviemaker exe because I have never used that app.
I just happened to notice that entry when I ran qfecheck--an entry which didn't exist with 1.3.3.
No big deal, I probably have an improper nlite setting because I can't think of anything else that might cause it.
I will wait for 1.3.7 in a few days and investigate further if it still occurs.

I will go slowly though, I'll create:

Then when done with nLite addons then I copy above one to new folder:

xp_h3O_1.491_R_OT11_08-08-10

R is for RVM Integrator if have something only that program can or should be used with it. Then if need be copy that to new one and start again:

xp_h3O_1.491_RD_OT11_08-08-10

The D is for Driverpacks and then I'm all done. So if I run into a problem I don't have to start all over again. Especially since I'm rusty this should help a lot. Well especially if I forget to change the winnt.sif and add the Toshiba OEM stuff to it and do it right.

use professional edition

surfed the net ... looks like a a problem of inability to edit/modify resources during installation procedure, either because of the file attributes an .inf (for example) has, or unexpected rights privileges from the user originating the respective installation... also saw that MS corrected this with newer release candidates or service packs of respective pieces of software.

to this, one addon might be held responsible of it, if it is buggy, also.


i remember facing that kind of error not during installation of slipstreamed windows but during some software installation...and by the way I found the remedy either by using: "msicuu2.exe" (MS Windows Installer Cleanup Utility) or entering "secpol.msc" into Run section... then modifying this two things:

1) Right click "Software Restriction Policies" ---> "Create new Policies" ---> to the right...right click "Enforcement" then "Properties" , tick "All Users except local Administrators"

2) to the left... expand "Local Policies" ----> "Security options" and to the right...you will see the third line : "Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only" and set it "Disable"

No you will never see an impediment to install things ) but of course this 3 things apply when you are in a finalized session of windows installation... BY THE WAY IF ANYBODY COULD TELL ME HOW TO OPERATE THOSE 2 STEPS ABOVE... THROUGH REGISTRY ENTRIES OR INF INSTRUCTIONS...SOMETHING HE IS MOST WELCOMED TO SHOW IT TO ME, PLEASE )

Everything works perfect using XP Pro SP3. I created 6 limited accounts, all working fine.

Whole host of Application Addons that have never given any issues before.
Removed: Windows Messenger, MSN Explorer, Netmeeting, Tour.
Boooogy's WMP11 (Using WMP11 Integrator)

I have noticed that the message comes at logon when it "Setting up Personalised Settings for Microsoft Windows Media Player" - I have not changed anything from my previous uses of this program and I'm still using the same hotfixes too.

Funny that it's only happening on a VM and not real PC.

non-offensive issues with virtual machines are known, as I said : too much simulation end up simulating good results , vm has it's value though

my WMP addon may be free from your issue, I suppose. The issue is likely that "Setting up Personalised Settings for Microsoft Windows Media Player" is attempting to access HKLM root of your registry, which is not allowed with non-admin users.

- I used Boooggy's WMP11 Slipstreamer for my CD.
- Driverpacks base to Slipstream driverpacks masstore 10.06

I Tested on VMWave and get DTCInstall.log
