Hello folks,
According to this thread:
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.p ... t=kb973690
there is a problem with KB973690.
Also if you follow the link provided in that thread to this update:
http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBH ... num=973690
you see that this update is for a specific problem only.
I don't understand: why is it then included in the pack?
Thanks:
SST

that hotfix is for msi.dll.
i have no problems with any MSI installers.
SHO_GuN has expressed an error he has with Office2003 install.
i have not personally tested that and would be insterested if others have the error with Office2003.
funny how it effects MS own product!
if there are any issues with KB973690 or rather with MSI installs
users should speak up so i can do something about it.

would be interesting to know if there is an issue with Office2003 installs after KB973690.mr_smartepants wrote:I have an Office 2003 disc laying around here somewhere...I'll test and report back. So far no other issues.
if anyone also uses OnePiece update pack it as well has KB973690 and would like to know if same install issue occurs.
I tried KB973690 in my french update pack and a lot of problems with msi installers.
Then I gave up this KB and everybody can install silent msi installers...
I didn't try with Office2003 but with silent msi installers from Windows Live like Photo Galery (problem with 4 msi from my Live AIO addon).
These problems occur both integrated system or live system.
I guess it would be occur with .msi or .msp (?)
All was ok with reg entries...I think about the good version...
That's why I keep KB967756 instead of KB973690.

ok here are my findings from testing XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack_1.0.7_20090811.7z with Office 2003 msi install.
i used RVMi 1.61 b2.1 for integration.
OS source: MSDN Windows XP SP3 Professional VLK (SHA1: 66AC289AE27724C5AE17139227CBE78C01EEFE40)
Office Source: MSDN Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003 with SP3 integrated
the below list is the update pack and any addons used during integration:
XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack_1.0.7_20090811.7z
Addon_CmdOpen_2.0.3.7z
Addon_DirectX_9.0c_Redxii_End-User_Runtime_0.7.0.7z
Addon_DirectX_9.0c_Redxii_For_Managed_Code_1.1.0.7z
Addon_Kels_Runtimes_v5.6.7z
Addon_Microsoft.Net_11SP1.7z
Addon_Microsoft.Net_Family.35SP1_ROE_1.02.1.7z
Addon_Microsoft_Capicom_2.1.02.7z
Addon_Microsoft_Silverlight_3.0.40723.7z
Addon_RegTweaks_Utilities_1.49.7z
after integration setuperr.log shows NO errors.
qfecheck shows all KB as installed and on system.
installed Office 2003 without any errrors.
all menus and gui progress was present along with the ability to choose features in advanced customization.
IMHO there is NO issue with this pack and KB973690 and MSI and/or MSP installers.
Onepiece has pointed out that it is possible that some people build custom Office installs and that can be the culprit to the error.

I just got done testing and I've found no issues with msi based installs. I agree that the problem must be with how they're installing Office 2003.
Here's my install.
Used RVM_Integrator_1.6.1b2.1.exe
English - Windows XP Home x86 - OEM SP3
My office 2003 disc is a hologram retail box (sp0) student/teacher edition. No problems.
Also, just to make sure everything works, I threw a bunch of msi and other installers at it...zero problems. I installed itunes, safari (both .msi based), audacity & imgburn (Roguespear multimode installers), and jre6u15. The only issue I ran into was with itunes. I first tried with the /qb switch and itunes got installed, but quicktime failed. Normal install was fine.

Oh, is that the issue? I spotted that, but I thought my 'helpful' wife pressed the button. So then yes, I can confirm that the installer finishes successfully (all apps work, MU nags to install updates), yet the installer exits itself with no user prompting.armond wrote:When installation finished, it closed without pressing the Finish button.
Odd bug.

I just made a fresh install with 1.08 on an old pc. During installation the Found New Hardware Wizard popped up and wanted to seardh for drivers for
terminal server device redirector
terminal server mouse driver
terminal server keyboard driver
I should mention that I did integrate five different drivers onto the disk before installation using nLite, but other than that I didn't do anything I don't normally do.

It' OK .
But you could add IE8 and WMP11 to have a complete XP cd.
Look in the forum for the update packs for IE8 and WMP11.
Do a test and later you can even add many more addons.
just first I wanted to make sure sure from every step to point the error (if it happenes)
PS:
Installed without any error so far with Build:
Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_qfe.090714-1307: Service Pack 3
what about Xpize Guyz?
it's bin long time since I make an ISO
and I found many versions came up to the surface not from the original developer
any one tried Xpzing the Source without issues?

I have the same issue as mr_smartepants. No progress bar on certain installers. I created a CD with only this update pack and drivers. The only thing I removed from Windows are alternate languages. After installing Windows, I first install dotnet 3.5 and the installer does fine. I then install java (jre) and it does not display its progress as it installs. There were others too but I can't remember what else.
Another strange bug with this pack. I use windows remote desktop a lot. When I first install XP with this update pack, remote desktop works fine. However when I install dotnet (first program I install) remote desktop no longer works. I created a new CD with red's update pack and this issue does not exist so it is related to the update pack. Also, when I say remote desktop, I mean logging in TO this computer. Remoting FROM this computer works fine.

i use Symantec AV Corp 10.1.8000.8 with current def files and no viruses found. add the mrt.exe to an allowed list in your AV scanner if you receive a false positive.
mrt.exe is now required to pass MU/WU. either i use my stubbed version or i use the original which would add significant weight to the pack.
