Check out this awesome Integral Edition of Windows XP

Post by Zephyr » Tue Sep 27, 2022 3:41 am

At Zone 94 there is a so called Integral Edition of Windows XP SP3 last updated on 9/9/2022 in which the standard XP updates and POSReady 2009 updates are integrated along with .NET and MSVC runtime libraries, a host of patches and extended hardware support. Optional applications are included. This distribution is so thorough that developer can be said to have thrown everything except the kitchen sink at XP as we say in the UK. For instance you can replace MBR with GTP for disks greater than 2 TiB and there is a microcode update for Intel processors backported by BlackWingCat. There are many patches and drivers I have never heard of, and whose function I cannot fathom. What is a NVMe driver for instance?

The level of interest aroused by this Integal Edition of XP can be gauged by the 4653 comments on the same page.

The most urgent upgrade of Xp that needs to be done is to extend the the API of the kernel so that simple applications for Vista+ can work under XP. It could be possible to make an addon for an extended XP using Dibya's Build Envirenment, but this was not developed after 2017 so that his kernel32.dll is version 5.1.2600.7378, while the last POSReady 2009 update of kernel32.dll is version 5.1.2600.7682. As Dibya does not want to devote more time to this project I decided to finish it myself despite knowing nothing about programming. Dibya was going to help me by providing the source code for his project, but I am still waiting.
XP FOREVER!

Thank you for sharing! This is absolute insanity!
This guy must really be passionate about doing all these mods to XP.
Didn't even know that more recent versions of Firefox could be backported.

In case you didn't look it up, those newer NVME drives in M2 slot format often need specific NVME drivers.
The one included by default in Windows 8.1 and up will often work but most manufacturers will provide their own optimized versions.
