Holy Crap: AMD Radeon R9 295X2 8 GB

Post by ELiTE » Wed Apr 09, 2014 10:24 am

Having been a video card fanatic for many years I thought I'd seen it all. I've spent a few grand on these puppies over the last decade and after each purchase I convinced myself that I was good to go for the forseeable future. I'm guessing I was wrong.

Vid cards are going places that 10 years ago you wouldn't have thought possible. The specs on these new monsters will blow you away. Hang on to your wallets and check this baby out:

The most I've ever spent on video cards for a single PC was $1k US for a pair of GeForce 7800GTX 256MB cards in SLI. Didn't quite seem worth it at the time since newer cards with more memory were released a short time after. They drove a 21" 2048x1536 CRT monitor.

Now, one 30" 2500x1600 LCD monitor is good enough for me. A cheap GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB card is more than enough to play at that resolution with max settings under XPx64. :)

Plus the monitor folks are getting ready to release Ultra High Definition monitors - at a fairly steep price and nothing smaller that 27".

I am good with integrated graphics, waste of money if you ask me... But if you can afford it then by all means, go ahead

Does it come with a mini nuclear reactor to power it? :)

Latest info is that Amazon and Newegg have dropped their price for this monitor to $600.
