Opinions about OFFICE

Post by GH0st » Mon Nov 17, 2014 2:09 pm

ok, I have always LOVED Office 2003. Simple to use, has all the tools one could need, super tight ... but I use ".DOCX" files, need to open and modify them. So I do add the MS "FileFormatConvertor".

after years, of installing the entire suite and never actually using most of the stuff, was thinking about a change.

What is a good, simple word processor, at the level of Word 2003, that work with .DOCX files (and more), that is super light.

Can I get just a version of WORD, with out the rest of the stuff?

Should I look back at getting WORKS? Does works do .DOCX files?

I do OFTEN need to insert a picture (jpeg/gif) into the document. In Word 2003, I just DRAG it in place and it become embedded by some magical power :)

Or how about a HACKED version of WORD 2010/2013, which has ONLY word, nothing else but files associated.

What ever, what ATERNATE options should I consider here please! All opinions welcomed

You can select during Setup not to install the other components. A hacked copy would create problems.

True ... but once I add the FileFormatConverter, things act weird (alittle, barely percieable), but I need this to use DOCX files ... guess I need to look at maybe another office product all together, if they can open same file.

Have you used any of the newer office version? What would you recomment, native DOCX/DOCM support?

My favorite version of Office is Office 2010. I don't like the UI of Office 2013.

It's the good-bad loop again... (I didn't like Office 2007 as well)

Microsoft offers single component install of the Office 2010 apps.

I use Word and Excel from Office '97. No joke, I use it every day. "Almost" portable (shows a "missing vbaen32.olb" message, which is auto-closed by the Autohotkey launcher). It loads so fast that I sometimes suspect it's already running before I even press the hotkey to launch it :-)
Great for automatic postinstall, as well. Even runs in every PE.
(Note: most files are from O97, some are from O97SR2, to fix the slow Excel recalc bug).
Must admit: No docx/xlsx, but that's not a problem for me.
