Windows XP Post-SP1 Update Pack

Post by RyanVM » Thu Dec 16, 2004 2:24 pm

It's doable. Anybody feel like undertaking that massive task?

Why would you do that when there is AutoPatcher XP? :?

I suggest you read the advantages of direct integration at the top of the update pack page.

Yes, there are many advantages.

But isn't it too difficult to realize? And is it really worth the effort? In my opinion it doesn't.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but there are those who don't want to move to SP2 for whatever reason. That's why I'm giving them the option of making one, rather than me doing it myself :P

I'm constantly (as time permits) doing this already. It's been a rough ride. Thank heavens for virtual computers.

SP1 is not dead. A lot of people still use it. Many haven't switched or have switched back from SP2 for various reasons, myself included. SP2 is nice but there are still, at least for me, some major malfunctions. I will post here as soon as what I have is complete enough to upload.

On a side note:-> Anyone have ANY idea as to why SP2 would use ALL available bandwidth for itself and leave none for anything else?

well SP2 works fine once you disable most newly presented stuff like secrity center..

oh yes, some people have problems with internet connection sharing, but that's easy solvable!

Id say screw it ryan and if they dont want to install sp2 then its their problem. Dont make it yours too. ;)

I'm just thankfully for all the work you have done and to me taking on sp1 for anyone even you would be a waist of effort, time, and money. Matter of fact I do not even understand why mirosoft continues to support sp1. They should not. They should make you install sp2 to download updates. Not just sp1 or sp2. Should not have a choice. :P

that is not a nice from you war59312... if you're not up to it,
it doesn't mean someone other is. i looks like you want ryanvm's
time just for your needs, and that is, let me guess competion of 1.2.1

I've never said I was going to do a Post-SP1 update pack (in fact, quite the opposite). I did actually get an email from someone recently who was going to attempt such a pack. I haven't heard back from him since, though.

And as far as my time goes, I'm actually caught up with 1.2.1 as it stands right now. I'd release what I've got, but I decided it doesn't make sense to do a release now when MS patch day is in a bit over a week. I don't want two releases in such close proximity to each other, hence why I'm holding off.

Hey,

Nope, I did not mean that at all.

I just think it's a waste of time for "anyone" to add support for SP1 when there is a SP2. And sames goes for SP3, SP4... For any product that is... You get the picture.

But yeah if someone wants to take on the project, well then good luck. Looks like no one is though. ;)

I had a crack at this and gave up just before the feb updates this month. (more hastle than it`s worth imo) I`ve uploaded it for anyone who might want to pick up where i left it.

2 or 3 updates are included but show on WU and it does not include February`s updates.

If someone does take it up from here, create a new thread for the final release.

Hi ryanvm, sorry i been so busy these pass months. in fact i say do with this because there are those who do wanna stay with sp1. i think it's because of those who didn't realy have any errors.

would you bee will to have a option for disable security in windows xp? , i have a pc that isn't online. that dosen't really need security really. may be in the future i'll use that pc for testing. what ever els is needed. i'm looking up the parts for a bran new pc in the future.

I been busy going to school, getting in to shape now.

Considering Microsoft is formally ending all consumer hotfix support for SP1 five days from now, it may be a bit too late to do anything with it...

Windows XP SP1 and SP1a support ends on October 10, 2006
