You were using the ExtraFileEdits all wrong. ;)

Try this:

Enjoy!
OMG I might have to marry you now!

Before I discovered nLite I was seriously considering purchasing a copy of Windoze from Europe so I could get a euro copy without this godawful piece of bloated rubbish WMP.

Basically I like to remove every single piece of Microsoft software I possibly can from an ISO build and replace them all with Open Source alternatives.

Siggie, I am assuming this removes all file associations and context menu handlers for the program as well yes?

Keytotime I might have to marry you too! (uh-oh does Ryan allow polygamy here?)

Great work you guys! Keep 'em rolling!

Oh my.... I hear the theme song to The Stripper humming in my mind right now.... and a mega pack name.... Siggies Sexy System Stripper Addon Pack....

Yes it removes all the file associations and context menu handlers. The Accessibility folder is still there though. I'm looking into it.

i can also recommend having some of these built in to the integrator if possible once you get a smaller source windows will install faster
especially if one needs to test an addon
so he gets a faster install/outview on vm
then the replies for tested addon arrive quicker for overview
happy to mention this Razz thanks ..

@Keytotime I think I'm done making removal addons for now anyways. ;) It got a little addicting ... and I thought it was cool we found a way to do them. But like I said... I'm not an expert at them. So I'll leave it to you Keytotime. :)

BTW... I found out that we do not have to [ExtraFileEdits] every txtsetup.sif entry... only the entries that are not in the [SourceDisksFiles] section. The [obsolete_files] section is supposed to delete the file, remove the d1,filename.ext from dosnet.inf and remove the entry from sourcedisksfiles section of txtsetup.sif. Just thought I'd point it out to ya in case you didn't notice. If you need any more help let me know.

i agree, Siginet :)

Addons which removes those annoying, useless, bloated, bundled apps is enough, as far as addon(removal) pack concern ...

those who need tiny removal of all possible parts of XP is recommended to use nLite instead.

thank you Siginet and KTT! you've made my CD smaller thus i can fit my switchless installers now!

kudos!

KTT,

1st, your removal packs' (sound & accessibility) filenames doesn't include the 'ADDON' string :)

2nd, even when i rename the filename to include the 'ADDON' string, Setup still complaining of missing WAVs, some HLP/CHM files ...

KTT, i've done some simulation using the following removal packs:

Code: Select all

Removal_Accessibility_DeleteAddon_v1.4.cab
Removal_AutomaticUpdates_DeleteAddon_v1.5.cab
Removal_Games_DeleteAddon_v1.2.cab
Removal_MovieMaker_DeleteAddon_v1.4.cab
Removal_MSNExplorer_DeleteAddon_v1.7.cab
Removal_SecurityCenter_DeleteAddon.cab
Removal_SystemRestore_DeleteAddon_v1.4.cab
Removal_WindowsAgent_DeleteAddon_v1.0.cab
Removal_WindowsMessanger_DeleteAddon_v1.5.cab
Removal_WindowsTour_DeleteAddon_v1.5.cab
KTT_Sound_RemovalAddon.CAB
*EDIT* Seems that some packs removed some functionality on others. I'm not exactly sure each components, but IE and WMP was removed when I used the removal packs above.

Siginet/KTT, maybe you guys need to specify what other components maybe affected when using each of the packs.

Windows Help Center Removal:

This does not remove the ability to use help or any help files. All this does is remove the help center, the help service, and System Information. (Siginet if you add this to the first page add this description.)

http://rapidshare.de/files/13993011/KTT ... n.CAB.html

Note: If you use the previous addon, start from a clean source. It had to many serious problem's.

KTT, i've found out a bug using "Removal_WindowsTour_DeleteAddon_v1.6.cab"...

When I use this pack together with others, the files were deleted but the entries were not edited in the INF file (i'm not sure which).

When I redo the integration with this pack only, it works (DOS Setup continues without nagging me about the missing files since the physical file has been deleted but was pointed to it from the INF)

Also, regarding the missing WMP, I'm suspecting the Windows Messenger removal pack was the cause. I'm reinstalling the compilation without this pack to see if WMP is still there at the end.

Hope you don't mind my constant complaining. Thx!

I found out where the problem is. :( And it is a limitation of the integrator/windows/ and autoit.

Basically it is a limitation in the amount of data that can be read from one section in an ini file at a time.

I guess only about 32-33KB of data can be read from a section of an ini file. Which is fine for most addons. But my WINNTUPG removal addon uses a lot and the Tour removal addon does as well. They are fine by themselves... but the integrator gathers all of the info into one huge ini file before it processes everything. Which sounded like a great idea untill now. For most addons that are made this should be fine... but a lot of these new removal addons that have been made are creating huge sections in the ini. :( So the integrator begins to process everything but when it gets to the full [obsolete_files] section of the accumilated addons... it is choking half way through it. What this means is me and Paul_365 are going to have to come up with a plan to fix this limitation.

So for now... if you are going to be using a lot of addons... or if you are using some of the big removal addons... try to do them in chunks. Maybe do half of your addons with your updatepack. Then do a second run with only the other half of addons.

Like I said... most users will not have an issue because most addons should not cause an issue... but it is a limitation that I am now aware of and I promise to look into it and try to fix it for v1.2.

thx Siginet, at least that explains the constant problem when integrating bulk packs at one go.

i'll be redoing the integration again to test out each removal packs to see what *other* components it may remove ;)

kudos to both Siginet and of course KTT for making these packs :)

Thank you, Then I'll make delete addons for the Accessories. It'll really great to have these because nLite screwed up to many of my install's and left behind to many traces of the component for my comfort. Then it was pratically impossible to fix an error with nlite also, because you can never know what it removed. On a more serious note, when you made a delete addon, don't delete the .inf make a dummy one, it's a lot safer that way and does the same thing..
