Only reason I ask about you adding the copy/del flags is in my Notepad++ addon I add the ,,,1 flag to my CopyFiles section (same section I use to DelFiles in my INF uninstaller to del the file on reboot if in use). I just wanted FGCBA to not flag it as an error is all :P Notepad++

I know the RegisterDLLs looks kinda non standard but I can assure you that Micorsoft uses it (and it works during Windows Setup), you can check syssetup.inf and you will see those RegisterDLLs and switches used. Example NonStandard RegisterDLL AddOn

I need help from someone experienced in regular expressions...

I am trying to parse the full RegisterDLLs that ricktendo64 posted using a regular expression to detect syntax errors. While this can be done with a horizontal parser, I don't like reading and parsing char by char...

Could someone help..?

Here's what I've come up so far...

Code: Select all

^\d+,
(("[^"]*")|[^,]*)?,
(?<DLLFilename>(("[^"]*")|[^,]*))
,(((0x0*)?[12])|[INIn])?
,(\d+)?
,((("[^"]*")|[^,]*))?
$
This matches it properly if all parameters are there (or empty commas), but the problem appears if I try to make it so that it accepts the right syntax even without optional parameters.

If I make it like this:

Code: Select all

^\d+,
(("[^"]*")|[^,]*)?,
(?<DLLFilename>(("[^"]*")|[^,]*))
(,((0x0*)?[12])|[INIn])?
(,\d+)?
(,(("[^"]*")|[^,]*))?
$
and then you write something like this:

Code: Select all

16422,%SubDir%,Executable.exe,"WrongParameterHere"
It still matches ! Anybody got a solution ?

I know I can split the line into an array by the commas, but what if someone needs to write a filename or subfolder with a comma in its name. AFAIK the , is a valid character to be used in NTFS and FAT32 filesystems.... and although it is a remote possibility, it is still possible.

This blocks me from implementing expanded RegisterDLL syntax in FGCBA.

Hey n7 sorry for this other request but would it be possible to add this alternate CopyFiles detection to FGCBA?

http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5407

Maybe have it look in CopyFiles for files with the @ character then parse [DestinationDirs] for a DefaultDestDir or if you cant implement it have it ignore CopyFiles sections with @ and also ignore DefaultDestDir in [DestinationDirs]

I hope its not too much :oops:

Most of these problems are now obsolete. I have written several (actually 4) horizontal parsers that will parse any kind of delimited value with or without quotes as part of several libraries used in Windows Media Player 11 Slipstreamer. and currently working on an entirely new (regex-free) 100% faster ini parser.

Once I have built enough infrastructure, I will recode FGCBA to build on these new libraries and bring it up to date.

'Allo

the warning means that you are using a expandable variable in the inf file that does not have a value assigned to it (to expand into)

search for your term "pfvqy2" in the inf in question (User2.AddReg section is where it found it according to your log)

from the inf that may be a known expandable variable. like %24% is, not being able to read the language of that key i couldnt tell you for sure. :)

hope this helps

Nothing is wrong with the converted output, it is a bogus error because the ini parser that was used in FGCBA does not properly recognize double percentage signs that means to ignore the value, so it is considering it as an unreferenced inf variable, you can safely ignore this warning.

Thanks Rick, I have no idea if its going to work. (Test it later) FGCBA says there no real errors. Except the one i posted about.

You can ignore it, not all errors reported are bad.

I am having a problem... I keep getting this error... when I run FGCBA on my entries.ini:

Code: Select all

strange... I double checked all the other infs individually and they all checked out so a rebuilt the package and integrated it and it installed fine... guess this error has something to do with the way fgcba parses entries.ini files only... and isn't actually an error with the ini or inf files.

sorry if i wasted anyones time...

These are probably bugs related to how FGCBA considers some unusual scenarios in order to cope with some addons that are "uninstall-enabled".

In any case, I no longer have the source code of this version of FGCBA, because it has changed too much, so I cannot investigate this problem. I am currently busy with a rewrite of many of my core classes (on which all of my apps are based) and incorporating them into Wmp11slipstreamer, then I will fix up and update this program soon.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed already, but it looks like FGCBA isn't utilizing the copy of cabarc included in the nirsoft addon builder. It appears to be using cabarc from the system directory, which caused a problem when using a really obsolete version by one of the users. I realize this is unlikely to affect many users, but this problem doesn't exist in an older version of FGCBA included with the sysinternals addon builder. Thanks for all the hard work!

Hi n7Epsilon,

Thanks for this software, you made a great job! By the way, I may found a bug. If we make a direct copy file in a CopyFiles directive, like this :

Code: Select all

CopyFiles = @UtilsPack.inf,ResHacker.Files
Then FGCBA complains and returns an error.
!- 1 error(s):
- CopyFiles directive referenced a non-existant section: [@UtilsPack.inf] in
UtilsPack.inf!
!- 1 error(s).
I know it's not recommended to use @ oprator to copy a single file, but it's the only way I know to copy an inf file inside Windows\inf directory.

Cheers,
Kal

That should only work if you're using DefaultDestDir=17 in your [DestinationDirs] section, kal. But you should be able to copy INFs normally to destination 17.

@kal: The reason is that this scenario is not supported yet and FGCBA considers everything in CopyFiles to be a section name.

FGCBA has been in a process of complete rewrite to support much more things, and still is but I'm not getting enough time for it these days...

Yes of course I set DefaultDestDir to 17 in my [DestinationDirs] section. What do you mean by "you should be able to copy INFs normally to destination 17" ? You mean, using a CopyFile section name to copy inf files ?

Yeah, elsewhere I posted that the current version of FGCBA does not support the [strings] section in an inf very well. Hopefully that will be fixed too. It would make FGCBA one of the more awesome tools out there for fixing stuff.

FGCBA *does* support [Strings] correctly. It automatically substitutes variables while processing.

The only problem is that because it does not have a true ini parser, it sometimes incorrectly misidentifies any data between 2 %s in a line as a variable, producing extra (useless) warnings.

This has been resolved with the new IniParser, which is now used in WMP11Slipstreamer, and will go in next FGCBA...

Yes, but if I do that, FBGCA complains that I don't specify a source disk for that inf file inside [SourceDisksFiles] section :lol:
So, it doesn't solve the bug, but thank you anyway, I didn't know we could copy INF files through a copy list file section ;)

Hmmm ... then I would like to report a bug. When used in the following context:

Code: Select all

[Version]
Signature=$Windows NT$

[Optional Components]
%win_comp%

[RgEdtExt]
OptionDesc    = "%disp_name%"
Tip           = "%disp_name% v%disp_vers% %addo_made%"
Modes         = 0,1,2,3
CopyFiles     = Prog.root
AddReg        = Prog.addreg
ProfileItems  = Prog.AddShortcut,help.AddShortcut

[DefaultInstall]
CopyFiles     = Prog.root
AddReg        = Prog.addreg
ProfileItems  = Prog.AddShortcut,help.AddShortcut

...

[Strings]
win_comp   = "RgEdtExt"
...
the program FGCBS reports the following error:

Code: Select all

**** FGCBA 0.897 * by n7Epsilon * http://tinyurl.com/lslmm ****

 ** Reading INF file: RgEdtExt.inf...
  * Parsing [Optional Components] section...

 !- 1 error(s):

    RgEdtExt.inf!
 !- 1 error(s).

 !!!!- Critical error(s) detected, process aborted.

I mean ... well ... I could be wrong, but I do not think that FGCBA supports this kind of string configuration.

Well, it substitutes in values, but not in section names yet.

I seem to have a bit of a perplexing problem with the latest FGCBA (0.897).

I recently reformatted and reinstalled my PC with XP Home SP3, and FGCBA was copied over as I normally do (in a subfolder of %WinDir% called "cmd" which is then added to my PATH variable).

However, whenever I try to use it to check an addon (either a .cab or .7z file), I get the following error:

Code: Select all

Unexpected Error from FileGather:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
The error happens whether I drag and drop an addon to the FGCBA.EXE file in Explorer (which is what I normally do, and has worked before), or specify the correct parameters at a command line.

The only thing that I can think of that was different with this install that relates to FGCBA was that the .NET Framework installed on my PC before the reformat and reinstall was 2.0, and 2.0 SP1 afterward.

I can't supply a log file, as I can't even get one to generate with the above error.

Any suggestions as to the cause of the error, and ways I can look into to solve it?

Thanks in advance,

7-Zip is installed on this PC. How is it checking for it? Some registry entry?

EDIT: Seeing that 7-Zip 4.60 was just released, I took advantage of that, and downloaded and run the MSI installer for it. Problem solved. It turned out that I'd added 7-Zip to my install CD as a personal addon, but apparently I didn't include the correct 7-Zip related registry entry for FGCBA to find 7z.exe. I still would like to know what FGCBA uses to find 7z.exe though, so I can fix my addon :)

You were correct, ricktendo, so thanks! :D

n7,

It's almost been a year since your last post to this thread...I hope you're still around.

I was originally hoping that you could have a smiple test done on the [ExtraFileEdits] section like spcifying i386 folder and then check existence of files and the lines referenced.

But I think I found a bug...if I drag the entries file onto FGCBA it rebuilds it but deletes the entire ExtraFileEdits section.

Is there any chance of seeing a fix?

Well I'm still around but quite caught up with real life at the moment.

In addition, in order to be more robust and support more features, it needs to be completely re-written from scratch. So far, I haven't got any spare time at all to do this.

Part of the problem is that the specifications of an entries file are in constant flux, between minor incompatibilities between nLite and Integrator to major differences so I am not quite sure what they are anymore.
