Thanks a ton. I had been wondering if this would ever be updated again. Looks like MS has not shut the door on us yet.

Is FCGBA really only at version 0.711?

It doesn't actually matter that much to update fgcba if it is generating the addon correctly in this case, since it is used as a component in the final stage.

Is this even legal now that M$ owns the software? I also like the fact that M$ is hosting the bluescreen screensaver.... ;)

I would say this is still legal because none of the files are being hosted or shared.

However I do believe the addon is dead untill all of the internal links in it are updated.

Oh, I was just wondering since they put this in the FAQ's section over at M$:
Q: May I freely load or use Sysinternals utilities on computers that I support but do not own?
A: No. You will need to contact Microsoft Sysinternals Licensing (syslic@microsoft.com) and inquire about fee based licensing options.

Top of page
Q: May I distribute Sysinternals utilities in my software, on my website, or with my magazine?
A: No. We are not offering any distribution licenses, even if the 3rd party is distributing them for free. We encourage people to download the utilities from our download center where they can be assured to get the most recent version of the utility.

Have you tried this addon?

What it does is autodownloads the files on the users PC and then builds the addon thereby obeying the EULA and Licensing crap but still giving the user their desired addon....

No, I haven't tried it as of yet, I was curious of the rules regaurding using this, as I and many others build our disks to do repairs to others computers and the first rule I quoted specifically disallows this unless you get ahold of M$ and get a special license for it. The second one further goes on to say that you can't distribute it with your software, so if you're creating an OEM version of the O/S then you can't add it to it, if you're intention is to distribute or use that software with another PC. From what I am gathering from those two faqs specifically, this is not a legal use item unless you're specifically building the disk for your own computers use. Therefore, my question was a valid one, imho. Unless you can point elsewhere where it specifically gives OEM builders the right to use this sort of deal to include this to build your own OEM disk, which is what you're doing if you're using this forum, wheither or not you add on Ryan's pack, just the use of any of the packs here would thus be creating a OEM disk even if it's only for your own computer. Which yes, according to M$ you have the right to build that OEM disk, but according to the facts you can't use this software on those disks from what I am reading of it. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this issue.

The full link to those faq's are here: Microsoft's Sysinternals Licensing FAQ

DT, I think you're missing the point. The key idea lies in this phrase from your quote:
Q: May I distribute Sysinternals utilities...
I believe your definition of OEM is a bit skewed as well. OEMs manufacture and distribute complete systems (both hardware and software) to paying customers. Many of us are simply enthusiasts like myself. We do build our own systems and choose what software to put on them, but the main thing to understand here is that we do not distribute what we build. We are End Users.

It's the distribution that breaks the EULA. As long as we own the systems and they're for our personal use only (i.e., not in a corporate environment) then what we're doing is legal.

We may be able to buy an OEM Windows license with hardware, but since we are also the End Users then we're not really OEMs. :)

Actually from the software p.o.v. M$ describes an OEM version of it's software as software that is modified for a specific need. Thus if you so much as add WMP10 to your XPSP2 disk, you are creating an OEM version of that disk. If you distribute that disk or use that disk to support other computers that you don't own, (I think later on it says that it relaxed it for corporations to use it inside the corporation on thier computers,) then you are in violation of that license. But if you're intention is to use this on a disk you're creating for the purpose of "fixing" someone elses computer or to install it onto someone elses computer that you don't own, then you are in violation of the license. A lot of the people who come here use their disks they create to either fix someone elses computer, install the OS with all the updates, etc on others computers or run a business that uses a single disk to install on several other computers from various manufacturors, in those cases, this would not be acceptable from what I was reading, wheither or not you're actually distributing the OEM version you're creating when you add this to your disk, (even if this is the only add on you're using you're effectively creating an OEM disk.) For those of you whom only use this to build your own disks to use on your own computers then yes I guess this is legal, but for those others, (yes there are a ton of them here,) that use it for other uses, this wouldn't be a legal solution. They'd either first have to get ahold of M$ and get a license for them to do it or can't do it at all, depending upon their own specific needs for the OEM disk they are building. I think at the very least there should be a warning for this on the main post of this thread, that if you're not using this for you're own needs on your own equipment then you can't use it as per their faq's from how I am reading them. Again, I may not be right and maybe someone from Sysinternals or M$ can clarify their faq's better on this issue. Also about you're point that OEM's distribute both hardware and software, you're not exactly correct on that either, I do know of system builders that distribute both and netiher one is exclusive to the other. In that they distribute an OEM version of Windows, in some cases versions they built specifically for another persons system and install that on their computer, be it for the fact they add in Ryan's pack or go the long hand route and slipstream all those updates themselves, as well as any drivers that may be on their customers systems and some other software they may choose to include as well. In those cases, they too cannot add this software to their disks from the way I read these faq's. I do agree however with you that many of you are personal system builders, as I am too but I also do it for others as well and in those cases where you're doing this only for you're own computer and noone elses, then yes you're probably safe to do so.

Yaa thanks for the update and fix odyn1982.

Side question

To access AutoRuns, Process Explorer and PageDefrag i have created some "my computer" right click entries. For Contig ive got some HDD right click entries "Defrag with Contig". Could someone please tell me how i could disable the start menu entries for the programs so i can just access them as i currently do?

Thanks

All but the Contig entries are placed in the My Computer context menu while the Contig entry will allow you to defrag a Folder/HDD by selecting "Defrag With Contig" from the context menu.

Autoruns, PageDefrag & Process Explorer(obviously you will need to change them slightly to point to the appropriate directory/.exe)
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Autoruns]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Autoruns\command]
@="autoruns.exe"
Contig
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\Defrag Using Contig\command]
@="Contig.exe -s *.*"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Defrag Using Contig\command]
@="Contig.exe -s \"%L\\*.*\""

I will make a new release soon but Network Monitor 3 isn't a Sysinternals utility. You can make a switchless installer but I don't have much time because of school.
