[Release] Notepad2 Addon Pack

I've made a little cab file to put notepad 2 into a windows installation.
it can be installed using siginets integrator as an add-on.
would anyone like to try it?
I've tested it on mine and it seems ok but could do with a couple more people trying it.

I've called the file rvmaddonsnotepad so it works with the intergator.
Just use it as you would a normal add-on pack with or without the main pack.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
If the same thing is wanted for metapad I could also do one for that.
This isn't very complicated as its my 1st one

hey skitty, it seems member created add-ons are coming faster than i'd expected.i will download them, but i am not able to do an install now. save them for next ryans release.

I use the entries.ini from ryanvm's addon as a guide and when i took all the entries out i thought i didn't need, the integrator crashed. so i've only kept them in there to keep it working

I added the 1 because apparently every name etc in the .ini has to be unique and i didn't want it overwriting the information already added by the official ryanvm add on pack

i've just manually relced my calc.exe and notepad.exe with calculator plus and notepad2, I just renamed them both and whacked them into jcarle's compression bin then replaced them into the i386 folder, used this method for many installs and never had a problem..

thats the same sort of thing. its just this way you can whack the .cab into the integrator while your doing ryan's packs. saves time messing about

Yeah and RC9 opens for a lot more capability for people to create custom packs. No more limit to only text editing certain files and sections... the integrator can edit any text file. I also tried fixing the issue with missing sections in an entries file. It seems to work fine... but we'll see when more people make custom packs.

Also... I did add code so that a member can name their custom pack according to *UpdatePack*.cab *Addons*.cab

thanks for the great pack OP.

just one quick. inside this notepad.cab i see a .ini file and notepad.ex_ file

i want to slipstream termserv.dl_ file from beta build of XP that allows concurrent session.. can i just put the termserv.dl_ file inside your .cab file and would it work? or do i have to 1) create a new addon.cab file for termserv. or 2) modify .ini file inside notepad.cab ?

no, it would work i think as long as its going straight into the i386 folder. you dont need to edit the ini

You could re-associate the print command from notepad to wordpad...but for those of us that do not install WordPad that it also a problem

I have tested Notepad2, and yes it doesn’t print when you right-click (instead it asks if it wants to create the file), but opening the file normally and clicking File > Print works.

Skitty hasn't posted since Jan 22 2006. Somehow I don't think s/he'll be updating this anytime soon.

If anyone wants, I can repack the old installer with the new 2.0.15 for this addon, since I need a copy myself. I don't want to mess with the other notepad2 replacer addon, though. That's beyond me, and I use Kels notepad++ notepad replacer, anyway

I made the Notepad2 2.0.15 addon that's NOT a notepad replacer if anyone wants it, I'll post it. It's kinda the same thinking as Kels who has a notepad++ regular addon and a notepad replacer addon. I use the notepad++ notepad replacer as my main editor, but like Notepad2, especially since it doesn't steal associations, so I keep it as a backup.

For all the great stuff NPP has, I really hate how it kills any other context menu entries a filetype has when you associate that filetype in NPP.

After browsing without success for an addon of this notepad replacement, I've made my own.

I've tested it in VMWare and it works a frickin' treat.

To clarify in case clarification was needed, this addon does not replace notepad.exe, but adds an option to the context menu to open a given file with Notepad2. You can easily tell XP to open all TXT files with Notepad2, though.

After opening up skitty's original addon, I discovered that it's really easy to update notepad2 within the cab.
I have renamed it with my name, updated it, and converted it to 7-zip. (It does replace notepad just like skitty's)
