Well how about a sweet freeware virtual desktop app\shell extension

Dexppt 1.3

Also a nice notepad replacement, thats light and is mainly focused on NFO, DIZ files look into jane

http://www.kifoth.de/jane/

How about a handy clipboard app...CLCL

CLCL

Not sure if any one here would be generally interested in this...but its a great CSV app.

CSVed

If your into Post-it Notes type app's this one is really nice.

ShirusuPad

hmm if one is into mouse gestures there is always stroke it...which is free for personal use.

StrokeIt

Well there is a bit of a list to look through and see if any thing catch's your fancy. :)

Kel, it's all well and good to grab loads of small apps and convert them to CPL, but at what point does all of the additions to the Control Panel start to work against users and administrators (complexity)??

It may be a good idea to define exactly what might be considered a CPL app (and a shell extension too) and stick with that. Microsoft has some guidelines on-line.

Otherwise (using an extreme example), there is nothing to stop converting something like, say, OpenOffice to a CPL just because someone thinks it's a kewl idea.

Well, if they wanna add open office to their control panel, and wanna make the file, they are more than entitled to do it. If Kel wants to make these programs, let him.

Afterall, you have the choice to download em, or not to.

WTF?? It is uaer choice dude if you don't want these on your pc then you don't need to use them! None of these are in my uber pack and I am not forcing anyone to use them. As far as I am concerned I will keep making these and releasing them. The admin is the one deciding if these are put on their PC's so if they put one of these on and the user manages to mess up their system then it is the admins fault.

WTF?? The point should be clear enough. One of the reasons for the success of Ryans packs is that he was/is ruthless about appropriate function. Lots of function with the controls placed in the canonical location. All I'm asking is that a little bit of forethought be given to what is placed into the Control Panel and why.

I used compression bin for a while then i found this tweak, it adds "MakeCab" to the right click and will compress multiple files.

Couldn`t figure out how to make a simular entrie for Modyfype though :(

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\MakeCab\Command]
;@="makecab \"%1\""
@="makecab /D CompressionType=LZX /D CompressionMemory=21 /D Cabinet=ON /D Compress=ON \"%1\""

How about instead of making a CPL for it I add it to the send to list?

That`s a good idea, create a shortcut to it in the sendto folder however i don`t use the sendto menu and would rather not unhide it just for this.

There`s got to be a way to do it with a reg tweak...
