[Addon] Internet Explorer 8 for XP/2k3 1.4.11
I would really be interested to know how many people still install windows from dos. Is it worth it to try and stay compatible with systems that only support 8.3?
Seems like additional work for hardly any benefit and a good chance of adding confusion for others. Maybe someone can tell me why it is goodness to do this. Ms doesn't seem to think it is necessary.

I like ur approach, & want u to continue with that.yumeyao wrote:not only for DOS, but for a more standard ISO image. Yes it's not needed to do this, but at least doing this doesn't harm anything and brings benefits.
adric's presumption that there are not many who may install from windows dos is only generally right. I myself do not use dos generally for install, But I do like to have that option retained. Reason being many times we use, (or may need to use) ryans integrated product as an emergency recovery option. or associated with other emergency recovery tools.
While there may be other & better emergency recovery methods available nowadays, i do like to have the dos option retained for flexibility.
regds.

Hey yumeyao,
Just some feedback on your update packs (IE8 and WMP11):
* i have been using addons for my XP DVD building efforts for a few years now and have swapped and changed from the various available options many many times.
* i am really happy that i've found someone who does these 2 important addons perfectly
* between you and user_hidden, most of my needs are taken care of.
So thanks!

updated.
When I was releasing 1.3.3, I considered that Microsoft was to release a new compatibility view update, so I waited until Jan, 24th (you might notice in my addon that it was done on Jan, 23rd). But... I should have waited more several days.... lol. In fact the file(iecompat.dll) in this new update has a time stamp of 2009/12/10, such an old file the brain-dead Microsft releases....

No Setuperr Style: Tricks are made to avoid setuperr.log reporting while not harm syssetup.inf.
There may be vulnerabilities but you don't need to fear them at all.

The update KB981332 is already included locally.
I've mentioned that:
If you don't change ieaccess.inf like mine, you could remove IE shorcuts via ARP but the "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" is left in "Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools". Otherwise, my ieaccess.inf breaks the whole "-hide" routine.
The command is fine, when you type "ie4uinit -hide", it's fine, but it doesn't work if it's included in ieaccess.inf..
I'll go ahead doing a couple of tests on a clean source to see it. If I can't fix this bug, I'll probably leave it as it is(or probably change a little) and release a new version.
-------------edit----------------
It's ok in a clean source, then installs IE8 manually.... I'm still working hard to figure out what is in lack in this addon...

so the update it is up to date besides fully functional but fails to leave the fingerprint that reports to MU that already exists within the system... so, maybe is something related with the way the same update modifies xp in case of the downgraded brother browser... i.e. IEv6 that comes with QFE, not that is the QFE pack problem ...but wasn't ment for larger compatibility in case of browser upgradation an so...
and if it's so it means that's ok, operability first, cosmetics the second... i remember that something like this was making trouble with the updates for netframe2sp2...and was necessary to supplement , to supply some extra reg info artificially
cheating MU like in office 2003 and office 2002 (ofice xp) updating ... tha same thing with updates here, could it be ?
