[Release] WGA >cancelled<
After looking at Ryans pack and seeing that his is the same as mine this is discontinued. Sorry but Ryan and I discussed it and decided he would keep his.

Kel, your addon uses Long File Names. Not very handy for people who install from HDD in Dos instead of running the setup from CD.

Umm, it checks your PID with some algorithm that only MS knows and uses that to confirm whether or not it's legit.

Hi,
I've installed the WGA hotfix from microsoft's update website and i've checked the file GWFSPIDGen.dll, but it isn't on my hard drive... Are you sure that the file is required for the last version of WGA validation tool?
Or what it is used for?
Is the version 1.5.512.0 of this good addon a craked version? because i've an original XP version and i'm worry about installing a craked version about the WGA tool...
And also is the WGA plugin for firefox integrated in this addon?
Thanks a lot

DON'T DO A WINDOWS SEARCH
C:\WINDOWS\system32\GWFSPIDGen.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll
They're Not there? They should be and I don't think it's with the addon for Firefox (dont trust me, I'm not sure if it is or isn't).

FYI GUNDAM SEED Destiny DVD 3-4 ARE COMING OUT SOON!!! Scratch that its out....
GWSPIDGen.dll isn't necessary anymore with version 1.5.512

Kel, you might want to add this to your WGA.inf under [WGA.AddReg]:
Maybe it would also be handy to mention, in your first post, that your addon should be used in conjunction with Ryan's Update Pack, otherwise you are missing even more registry entries.
Code: Select all
HKLM,"%UPDATES%\WGA\SP0\WGA\Filelist\0","BuildCheckSum",0,"9102a"
HKLM,"%UPDATES%\WGA\SP0\WGA\Filelist\0","BuildDate",0,"Mon Apr 10 15:35:24 2006"
HKLM,"%UPDATES%\WGA\SP0\WGA\Filelist\0","Version",0,"1.5.526.0"

ViVa, the only registry entry that Microsoft seems to check for at any time is this one:
And it's already included in Ryan's Update Pack.
The correct registry entries for build date, checksum, and version don't seem to matter for it to work. I've already tested it by downloading Windows Defender from Microsoft.
It also works for the Microsoft Update site.
Code: Select all
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Ext\CLSID","{17492023-C23A-453E-A040-C7C580BBF700}",0,"1"

WGA is now a propper hotfix so it follows this general rule of addreg just like any other.
Here`s an example of what a typical hotfix adds to the reg (not including any "extra entries like wga adds for example")
And here`s an example of the basics that are needed and why.
Now, the extra wga entries are.. (this is straight from the hotfix inf btw)
Both are needed for proper installation of wga.
So the minimal entries required for wga are,
Of course if your not bothered about qfecheck then you can leave those entries out.
If you take a look at my update pack inf you`ll see i only include the needed entries, none of the extra`s which serve no real purpose are in there.. their just for show.
Hope this helps.

Those entries do appear to be necessary, I never doubted that. I'm just saying that Ryan's current Update Pack already includes them and that they do not need to be updated to make WGA work. The older checksum, build date, and version information in the registry is not verified when WGA is run or under any other situation that I can see.
I've tested and confirmed this twice so far on my own. Once on a live machine and once in a VM.
Microsoft Update and the Microsoft Downloads site do not say that it needs to be reinstalled.
QFECHECK also does not appear to list WGA. This may be due to the fact that it does not include a CAT file with LegitCheckControl.dll, therefore (in my opinion) it's not a proper hotfix because runtime files should always be protected by SFC.
There are proper hotfixes that don't include CATs, but as far as I've seen those hotfixes only involve the registry and do not include files other than INFs. The Malicious Software Removal Tool does not count in this case because the tool is not used after it is run once.

try to download SyncToy 1.2 for example from the microsoft website and I'm pretty sure it will ask to 'update' WGA, maybe you can test this? I agree with you though that MU and WU don't care, but when I try to download from Microsoft that needs validating as genuine windows, it want's to re-install WGA.
PS. This is from an older version of RyanVM's update pack from about November/December 2005.
Cheers!
FlyingGleek, the Nov/Dec RVM Update Pack did not include WGA, so it won't work for you without adding registry entries. They are needed, just as Xable says. Only the March and Arpil Update Packs currently contain all of the entries.
Actually, Xable, I wasn't aware of all of the details; so I'm glad you did post them. I've tried to learn by example through yours and Ryan's packs.
