XPuser, Im not sure how to advise you at this time. I will wait to see how others recommend and give it more thought later.

Sit back, lets see what happens

Thanks!

I think your problem stems from the VM ... do you have the ability to do this all on an actual install of XP?
actually i have the same problem on a actual pc, it stuck excactly like the one in the image provided.

UPDATE: XP SP4 MUI has been re-upload.
Search the term 'MUI' (without quotes) in the first post and follow the link for details and download.
Can't describe in words how much thanks/gratitude is owed to @harkaz for this amazing contribution!!! I haven't been here in a long while, and was super excited to see the recent update! :D

A few questions for @harkaz or anyone else who knows:

(a) I read the instructions for applying the updated MUI pack, but am still not sure if I need to (1) start with an English clean Windows SP3 ISO, slipstream or install the latest June 2019, then apply the MUI packs (in other words, everything stays in English until the end); or (2) start with my desired language's clean SP3 ISO from the very beginning and apply all the SP4 files including the MUI???

I suspect the correct method is (1), can anyone confirm?

(b) Going into the future, should the general order be: clean SP3 ISO -> apply all SP4 files up through June 2019 (slipstream or post-install) -> apply any GH0stPaks released on or after June 2019???

(c) The SP4 files are super valuable, have them been archived to a safe repository like the Internet Archive for safekeeping? Google Drive probably shouldn't be the only place to store them!

Thanks again for your work, @harkaz!
a) Do (1), it is fine.
b) GH0stpacks should be applied only if installing SP4 on a live system (for example, for users that do not have a Windows XP CD-ROM but use a recovery image instead).
c) I have kept offline backups in any case.

Hello!

I am glad to see that there are people who still care about Windows XP. Before I came across this pack I used "WSUS Offline Update" but they themselves ceased support for XP and don't provide updates after year 2014. I still have plenty of old hardware, not buff enough to run newer Windows systems, but too stubborn to finally rest in computer Valhalla.

If you happen to still have any plans for this I have a few suggestions:

1) As far as I understand the latest post-update pack is meant to be included as part of bootable installation CD only. Could you make an executable package out of it, just like the WindowsXP-USP4-v3.1b-x86-ENU.exe file? Or better upgrade WindowsXP-USP4-v3.1b-x86-ENU with these updates?

The reason I am asking is that I am not sure that making a bootable installation CD would work for some of my laptops. They have Windows XP preinstalled with laptop-specific drivers and other software. Reinstallation of OS is done via accessing a special recovery partition, not a CD.

Or should I just use GH0stPak for that matter?

2) My Windows version is non-English. Doing the registry trick and using MUI pack to change language back after installing SP4 worked fine. But I am wondering that given the source of this pack would that be possible to replace the English update files with other language files? Do you mind giving some hints or writing a tutorial on how to do that?

I would like to eliminate all these extra steps and just have one final update package that I just click and be done with it, just like with Service Pack 3.
1) You should use GH0stpak. Unofficial SP4 v3.1b is the final version I intend to release. Latest XP binaries are not compatible with non-SSE XP systems, and this does not justify the creation of a new 'unofficial service pack' (which should be - in theory - compatible with all XP configurations).

2) It is not straightforward to replace the files in the live installer or the CD-ROM, because several language-specific changes in the INF files are also needed.

I've been trying to get the latest post-SP4 update pack (released this month) from @Harkaz to work, but unsuccessfully. :(

I used nLite 1.4.9.3 (which is itself running in a Windows XP SP3 virtual machine) to slipstream version 3.1b of the SP4 pack into a folder containing clean Windows XP SP3 installation files (I tried both Win XP Professional SP3 and Win XP Professional N SP3, all in English). After the slipstreaming step, while nLite is still open and waiting, I used the `slipstream.bat` file in the post-SP4 update to put the recent updates into the installation files folder. Lastly, I let nLite create an ISO with those files.

This ISO fails to install on a VirtualBox virtual machine. Every time, the installation fails (the virtual machine would freeze) at this exact step:

https://imgur.com/HjtYolY

I waited for more than an hour but nothing changed.

What did I do wrong? How can I troubleshoot this? :tard:

BTW, I tried to slipstream version 3.1b into the same installation files, and installing that into a virtual machine was fine. So it's got something to do with the latest update.

Also, in the first post of this thread, @harkaz linked to a 4GB+ RAM patch file by someone called Dibya. I found @Dibya's thread on this forum, but I still can't figure out how to apply this 4GB patch and at what step in the installation I should apply it. Can someone give some instructions?

I have never used the MUI pack, so can't offer any advice there, but, it sounds like you got it!

Since MS just pulled the June update, being a TIMEZONE update, looks like they were not supposed to release it to XP. Makes me thing there will not being any more updates, at least not official. This means GH0stPak is done! Since Harkaz's most recent work is of a newer date. So was a fun project to have done for the past year. I will keep the GHostPak's archived on Google drive, but move them all to the older folder, keeping Harkaz's recent work, up front.

EDIT: To say I just updated my GH0stPak page and Google Drive, take a looks see!
Thank you very much GH0st. Even if the latest post SP4 update by @harkaz supersedes your pack, you still did a great job helping everyone stay updated!
Use nLite -> Integrate addon option to integrate Dibya to a SP4 v3.1b source with no modification. Current release of Dibya's patch is not compatible with the latest post-SP4 update pack.

I don't face the XP Pro N issue you mention. Repeat the integration process from scratch, and make sure you integrate XP SP4 in a Windows XP environment!

These files should be used only when debugging a Windows installation with these versions of XP binaries. No need to integrate them in the CD-ROM.
They are provided in case the debugging symbols are deleted from Microsoft servers. (There are debugging symbols for virtually every released version of Windows XP binaries).

1) What version of SSE instructions do these binaries use? I have a couple of CPUs with SSE1 but not SSE2 and later.

2) Are you sure that this is not worth the effort? I still might give it a try sometime nonetheless, could you point out which files should I take a look at? Any other information regarding that would also be welcome.

1) SSE2

2) You should modify binaries, catalog files, registry keys, language-specific strings in all INF files that have been modified in SP4 + include SP3 ones, with no straightforward method to automate the task.

XP SP4 v3.1b without update pack can be installed.
XP SP4 v3.1b with May 2019 update pack cannot be installed.

Abbodi AIO_dot_Net: https://pastebin.com/raw/HRJGkvbe

Once you have done the full install, choose to install ALL dotnets from with in the OS, then use Abbodi's updater to update them all!

Abbodi's solution is definitely the most up to date for dot Net, but @trevor12 will have to check and be sure whether Abbodi's AIO_dot_Net installer and/or updater is fully compatible with non SSE2 processors. I don't know the answer to that question.

Cheers and Regards

True, I had never heard there to be a problem for non-SSE2 procs with dotnets. Maybe abbodi will respond!

just download "PostSP4-May19-UpdatePack-harkaz-070619.zip" but not yet applied to my XP system yet.
I have a problem installing "PostSP4-May19...zip".

my current PC system is Windows XP SP4 3.1b

First tried... I insert the original Windows XP SP3 CD, there was an error message after run 'slipstream.bat' ..... "svcpack.inf not found".
I also can't found folder "CMPNENTS" in CD & inside my installed WinXP system (C:\Windows).

Second try... I tried extracting manually SP4 3.1b to a folder, but 'slipstream.bat' can not update.

Is it really need "WinXP installer CD" which has been modified with SP4 3.1b ?
The problem is how to make this kind of installer CD?

or harkaz/anyone can tell me how to update "PostSP4-May19-UpdatePack-harkaz-070619.zip" easily,,,, step by step tutorial,

and please be patience coz i'm just normal newbie Windows XP user.

or maybe latest GH0stpak already include all update , same like "PostSP4-May19-UpdatePack-harkaz-070619.zip" ?

Use GH0stpak to update your system. May 2019 post-SP4 update pack is intended to update an installation disk.
You may also add SCSI drivers to your installation disk as shown here: https://ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=10609

I just released another GH0stPak, dated 06Jun19, removing one update superseeded by another and then added the DST daylight saving times update that was accidentally released by MS update, now removed, but I captured it, now added. This pack is dated 06Jun19, so Harkaz's latest release is 07Jun19. Still the most current! Uploading the GH0stPak now

Sooo, whats up everybody? So no one has a friend who's company they work for, has a paid plan to get newer updates from MS for XP? Got to be some one out there with a Special Friend!?!? Would love to make "GH0stPak2" with all updates from Jun2019 forward.

Also, would like a friend who would do security updates to "SRWare Iron 49" (Chrome). Don't need new features, just more security.

This ISO fails to install on a VirtualBox virtual machine. Every time, the installation fails (the virtual machine would freeze) at this exact step:

I waited for more than an hour but nothing changed.

What did I do wrong? How can I troubleshoot this? :tard:

BTW, I tried to slipstream version 3.1b into the same installation files, and installing that into a virtual machine was fine. So it's got something to do with the latest update.

Thanks!

I think your problem stems from the VM ... do you have the ability to do this all on an actual install of XP?
actually i have the same problem on a actual pc, it stuck excactly like the one in the image provided.

i slipstream to a dell oem image, and it seems i cant get pass the product key page as it says my key is invalid
I don't face the XP Pro N issue you mention. Repeat the integration process from scratch, and make sure you integrate XP SP4 in a Windows XP environment!
I also have this same issue. I used an XP machine in VirtualBOX to make the slipstreamed ISO. An untouched SP3 image, slipstreamed SP4 3.1b using the /integrate command, then ran the Harkaz patch to it. I made the ISO using RyanVM's integrator, and I get stuck on 33 or 32 minutes remaining. Same for actual PC and on VM. I wonder if anybody was able to solve this?

1. Can someone re-upload the source code of uSP4?
2. But more important, is how actually unofficial update EXE it is created, with which software? There was a thread on MSFN that people makes unofficial rollups, but beside that is not known what is the app that produces the final unofficial hotfix (SFX CAB) file?

What do you mean by source code? Isn't uSP4 still available using the links in the first post? It was the last time I checked a couple of months ago. As to the tools involved, if you read the thread, harkaz pretty much tells you what all he had to do and much of the software he used, if I remember correctly. It has been a number of years since I read it, so I could be wrong.

Cheers and Regards

Hmmm This is the first I've heard about that.

If nothing else, SP4 is available through either Major Geeks - https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/detail ... icial.html or SoftPedia https://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Si ... cial.shtml.

It is there; search for the folder named like that after clicking on the main gdrive link, then download compress.rar
An unofficial sfxcab (https://www.softpedia.com/get/Compressi ... tute.shtml) was used to create the EXE. You will also need to create your own digital signature to sign catalog files. I think I have described this elsewere in this thread.

Thanks harkaz,

Yep, some of the individual links have gotten wonky, like the one that @maxtorix referenced above, but the folder itself, which has everything, is indeed there. Perhaps some post maintenance is in order?

Those who are looking for the working link, scroll down in the first post until you see:

That's the link you want. I checked, and the torrent magnet link also works if you prefer.

It is very strange:

There are 3 variations of SFXCAB, 2 line-based apps, and 1 with GUI.

1. SFXCAB.exe from Harkaz's compress.rar (compress\Kelsenell_files\SfxCab.7z)
VirusTotal reports 11/66 (It is not very likely that there are 11 false positives, that is too much anyway.)

2. SFXCAB.exe named as: "SFXCAB Substitute v9.1" (from RAX Software)
https://www.softpedia.com/get/Compressi ... tute.shtml
VirusTotal reports 2/66

3. Hotfix-Hacker (from RAX Software)
https://www.softpedia.com/get/Authoring ... cker.shtml
VirusTotal reports 5/66

Beside that the common sense tells that the case should be false positives - it is not seems like it. What you think?

Number 2 was used since it supports large SFX files.

Yes, they could easily be false positives. I remember creating a Windows application with Pelles C that had an EMPTY WinMain function. I placed it as a placeholder/replacement of .NET install apps in the Windows XP CD. VirusTotal detection rate was higher than 11/66.
Things might have been different if the file was digitally signed. And there was no packing or antidebugging mechanism, the EXE file could be easily disassembled, debugged and analyzed.

Hello evryone ( or better say, everybody, i'm French, but before Se7en i've ever liked to use Windows in English !

I use WinXP with VirtualBox ( and Win2K also because it lets play oldies games ), i was happy to find a way to update from SP3 until 2k19.
So i've read all topic on first page, followed download links, and watched others things too. I know the thing to do winth SP4 v3.1b is to "slipstream" it to the CD, and apply post update May 2k19 after. Make an iso. Simple like "hello" ( simple comme bonjour !). It seems to be the better way on internet to update SP3, i have to thank you to share it.

I've a idea about what i don't want from SP4, but i couldn't understand how-to change things. This are listed under optionnal or additionnal components, on the SP4 description page.

Bitlocker to go reader = i don't want\need it. Really !
XPS Viewer EP = i don't want\need it. No use for me. And it adds a link to StartMenu.
Windows Search 4.0 = i don't want\need it. But if it's not bad for performance, i don't care.
IMAPIv2 = i don't want\need it. If installed any difference in a VM ?!
Remote Desktop Connection Client 7.0 = i don't want\need it.
Windows Rights Management Client = i don't want\need it. Don't know what it is.
WebDAV = i don't want\need to install it. Don't know what it is.
update for Office 12 (Rosebud) = i don't want\need to install it. No use for me.
MSN Explorer 10.5 – Start menu link installed by default = i don't want\need it. Really !

Today i tried :
integrate SP5 v3.1b + slipstream update may 2k19. Install freezes @25min. Need to be patient a lot ? Let's try !
integrate SP5 v3.1b. Install works verry wel, everyone's happy.

Because i tried to change fileles like indicated to stop install for some components : bltg.in_ \ ieaccess.in_\ wdsearch.in_ \ winrmc.in_ \ wmpocm.in_ \ xpssvcs.in_ ; but no, even freshly slipstreamed it frezes.
Also no indication to bypass : MSN, WebDav, Office Rosebud, imapi (anyway this one). Wiil it be possible to understand how-to ? What is important when i install Windows is C++ 2k05, 2k08,......., msxml, Framework's for compatibility with softwares, because i test softwares under VM. I couln' understand what file says to install NetF 4.0, even after reading the topic, i'd like not to have to use NLite, just that to finish my CD.

All that is because i'd like a perfect setup, SP4 is dreamy, if i could bypass that list of components, the dream becomes true !!!!!!!

All that i know about unattend is my WINNT.sif, and i put archives in $oem$ with APPS, CFG files, because i figured that direct copied files became all uppercased :o

I'll let you see :
if something must be or better has to be changed, you can tell, even if something to add : like that it works.

Yes,

firsly i restarded install XP in VirtuaBox SP4 integrated, no PostSp4, changed files with ones from "No component inst.zip" ( thanks to you ), also i deleted folders of "COMPONENTS" disc directory that i didn't want, it worked well like that !
But, watching by "Add\Remove Windows Components", there was all things habitually disabled by my WINNT.sif formerly installed, from cursors to templates and even games :shifty: , also BitlockerTG, MSN, Right managements, XPS srvc were added. But not the access from StartMenu ! Windows search 4 is unticked Windows Guenine also.I have corpo XP SP3 (Grtmp) as base, ever add this onen from 2004 it's the same, never had genuine tool with it before.
DirectX, IE8, NET3.5, MsXml4, SP4 secur enhenc, Wmp11 - OK Works well !!!!!!! Why not Msxml 6 ?

I need Net 4.0 to be installed, i will do what is needed, need help.

But why Winnt.sif components ( and certainly others parts of it ) are ignored.

SORRY.

OFFTOPIC:

A study of mine, which was just published in a first-class psychiatry journal, examining preliminary evidence (based on unpublished data) about retinal changes in patients with schizophrenia.

https://academic.oup.com/schizophreniab ... 06/5598443

The co-author is a friend of mine, we both graduated last year from Medical School in Athens. We conceived the idea while drinking some cognac a Friday evening. I did the most part of statistical analysis, along with my required military service.

We hope our findings, along with a similar report from Harvard Medical School (https://academic.oup.com/schizophreniab ... 29/5494569), which was published a few days before we submitted our manuscript, will help future research in schizophrenia early detection (and possibly prevention in high-risk groups).

Side note: I'm not even thinking about leaving WinXP, still works for me and so far its secure for me. Browser is getting old in the tooth, but with "uBlock Origin v1.16.20" version still receiving updated block lists, I am secure. He does not update the extension for further for XP, but still gets updated lists every day.

I would keep this OS even longer, if they would update the Chrome browser and uBlock
