(Windows Genuine Advantage Validation) is not the same as the (Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications) Ther is no point to not included the KB892130 it must be installed to access WU or MU.redxii wrote:Never.Outbreaker wrote: KB892130 (WGA - This update is needed to access the Windows Update Center)
I would also not include the Flash beta version.

I know it's not the same but I'm still not including it. I'm sure Ryan isn't either unless he's changed his mind on that.Outbreaker wrote:(Windows Genuine Advantage Validation) is not the same as the (Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications) Ther is no point to not included the KB892130 it must be installed to access WU or MU.redxii wrote:Never.Outbreaker wrote: KB892130 (WGA - This update is needed to access the Windows Update Center)
I haven't had any problems with Flash 10. Including Flash 10 beta is no different than including untested QFE hotfixes, including untested kernel drivers or the kernel itself. Flash can be uninstalled though: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flas ... ml#install
Speaking of QFE, If I include even one then it will no longer be a Windows Update listed update pack, and I have to go back and redo the others to QFE. WI 4.5 will eventually be required for WU like 3.1 was. KB951830 applies to ICS, is it really that big of a problem?
I know of at least 2 of my friends that use ICS on computers that feed other computers around their homes, so KB951830 is something I personally would appreciate the inclusion of.
I know not everybody uses ICS for practical reasons, as well as network layout reasons, but some people do still use it, honest!

One of two ways KB951830 can be handled.Stimpy wrote:I know of at least 2 of my friends that use ICS on computers that feed other computers around their homes, so KB951830 is something I personally would appreciate the inclusion of.![]()

1. Direct integration with nlite.
2. Use of RunOnce (or RunOnceEx) after install.
If using option two, I have used this line in my installation (now I directly integrate):
Code: Select all
REG ADD %KEY%\030 /VE /D "Windows Hotfixes" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\030 /V 2 /D "%CDROM%\install\kb951830.exe /quiet /norestart /nobackup" /f

Hmmm ... I am not sure here, but either some things got broke with this latest update, or something just did not get installed on my test box.
The following updates are required by windows update:
KB942763 - Update for XP (Timezone appearantly)
KB890830 - MSRT (May 2008)
KB923789 - Security Update for Flash Player
Root Certificates (May 2008)
I will test again, but something seems squirrelly there.
Edit: Confirmed with the latest particular install CD I created. I will recreate just in case something got messed up. Windows update also wanted to install what it considered the latest package installer (v6.something). FYI

Re: MSI
Such as?jesscurt wrote:i get alot of MSI errors in the logs.
I don't have any problems. I even integrated 2.1.2 over 2.1.1. No Windows Installer errors, I even went through the trouble of trying some apps like Adobe PDF reader or Google Earth and even the Group Policy settings work, and even the mui file works correctly (for English anyway).

I would liek to know before I am going to test it in my install source (via VMWare)
KB951830 and KB952287 will be tested by me via nLite integration
c400, I would stop using this pack if WGA ever got put inside this pack. I'm not a pirate, but I just don't agree with handing my system over to Microsoft, after all, nobody has proved that MS are not able to do more with WGA than they currently admit to.
I think you will find many people feel simular to myself on this matter.

This may well be the case, but I would rather not choose to install a potential/known spy vector on my computer!Outbreaker wrote: If they want informations from you they get it also without WGA.
The only solution for this is if you use Linux.
I may be wrong, but why do everyone else choose to leave WGA out of their addons? Surely there must be a reason for this, as Ryan etc don't make their addons with just my personal feelings in mind.
But I would like to thank Redxii for resisting WGA this far, as well as keeping this excellent pack updated.
I still use WGA (but not WGAN), how else would I download updates or use Windows Update? I just simply don't want it integrated, and other people might not want it. I wasn't happy with the offerings first available for SP3 so I made my own update pack, but initially kept it to myself.
Now there are some really paranoid folks who will not even use Windows/Automatic Updates, are paranoid of Microsoft collecting personal data and say they're going to switch to Linux but never do so.

OK that is fine thanks for notifying me!c400 wrote:mindwarper in v2.1.2 everything is ok! It was a problem in one of the previous releases.
Now everything is just perfect! What about to add WGA ?
Does anyone, tried this?lsrkin wrote:Is it possible to integrate new version of Updatepack after i integrated old one and other addons or i have to repeat the same way again from vanilla?
Can they confirmn that seems to work fine, because that is exactly what I want o get sorted, I just don't want to redo all of my work.
Not that it is a big issue, but anyway...
For all those who wished to integrate WGAV/WGAN, xable made addons for these :
http://xable.net/forums/viewforum.php?id=3
http://xable.net/forums/viewforum.php?id=3
Now I guess that one was aimed at me, but fair enough, I could be slightly paranoid, but my reason is that I rarely have windows installed on my machine for more than a month, and use Ryans update pack to re install it.redxii wrote:Now there are some really paranoid folks who will not even use Windows/Automatic Updates, are paranoid of Microsoft collecting personal data and say they're going to switch to Linux but never do so.
Also I had a major fight with some Microsoft moron over WGA insisting that my copy of XP was not legit, and he basically said I must be a pirate, and it was only after speaking to his manager and emailing a copy of my receipt and a photo of my certificate of authenticity, that they activated my copy. After that, I have a bad taste in my mouth for WGA.

Because the principal of the matter: they leave it up to the end user to decide if they want to integrate it or not. I always integrate it for friend's computers (the WGAN flavor) anyway since Automatic Updates would eventually install it anyway. I only integrate WGA on m own installs since I manually decide when to install my updates.Stimpy wrote:I may be wrong, but why do everyone else choose to leave WGA out of their addons? FYI it's never a recommended action to integrate update packs over previous update packs. Whether this works or not may change from one update pack version to the next. You can't rely on it always working. I would never use this method.mindwarper wrote:OK that is fine thanks for notifying me!c400 wrote:mindwarper in v2.1.2 everything is ok! Just a question, KB950759 is for IE7, how come it is included in the Update Pack?.

"CAPICOM" doesn't appear to be included in XP SP3 to begin with, there is no CAPICOM.dll, and the update is over a year old.
KB951830 doesn't have a GDR branch.
KB952287 was added a long time ago, it had a GDR branch.

IE6, since XP SP3 doesn't include IE7. The bulletins point to the appropriate download: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securi ... 8-031.mspxOutbreaker wrote: And in this update pack only KB950759 for IE6 is included or ?

We can integrate that hotfix, that does not have a GDR btanch via nLite for example, right?
